You do have to have lodge or restaurant reservations to enter the property. McCloud Mountain is a private resort so sightseeing is unfortunately not allowed without a reservation.

I agree with the others, just tell the gaurd at the bottom you want to go to the chimney tops. The restaurant does have the best view though! You can see to gatlinburg and beyond! Like a hge green bowl..
No if all you are doing is looking at the views, but the restaurant requires them.
You can drive up and see the views but if you want to go into the resteraunt you will need reservations. There is also a board walk near by that goes out on the side of the mountain that was nice.
