I believe it may possibly be a combination of both human and computer error. It definitely would have to be one or the other. It has happened to me personally at Best Buy in the past. The best and only thing you can do is be diligent and make any and all phone calls necessary to your satisfaction as a consumer.
All Best Buy can do is enter the credit. Unless a wrong account was issued the return you should get reimbursed
Definitely follow up just in case. Best buy has good customer service so they should be happy to make sure you are well taken care of.
