Came in with severe back pain, and after it became too much to stand I laid on the floor of the ER waiting room. A nurse came over and started angrily shouting at me to get off his floor immediately. Getting up hurt even more but he didn't help me up. A lot of the staff came off both as cold, unwelcoming, and uncaring. They deal with a lot of people in crisis here so I can understand why they may not have the best bedside manner, but feeling like I was being treated with contempt during one of the most painful experiences of my life was awful. Also, it was 7 hours long experience. Tests were inconclusive, which is what it is. Not going to hold that against them. A couple of the staff were polite, and nurse Rachel who was kind and joked around a little. If you can afford to, don't go here. It's worth the extra time to travel to another UG/ER.

I came in with severe neck pain, couldn’t move my neck or head, difficulty breathing and swallowing. I checked in and the woman at reception who helped me was watching tv on her phone, I had to repeat myself 4 times on how to spell my name. After checking in, I sat and waited. There were about 8 other patients in the room, I knew I would probably have to wait a while because “I wasn’t having a life threatening emergency”, just agonizing debilitating pain. I get it, I wasn’t dying so I wasn’t prioritized, it makes sense to me. But then this woman was wheeled in and left by herself, she was crying hysterically in pain, said that last month she had 2 strokes and she was scared and needed help. The hospital staff were rude and treated her like she was just an annoyance, dismissed her, and wheeled her to a corner of the room and left her there. At the 3 hour mark, I walked to the front and asked if there might be any update on wait times, because my neck was getting worse from sitting in an uncomfortable chair for that long. The lady at the desk said in a mean tone, “there’s no way for us to know. Just go sit down and wait like everyone else.” No compassion. I finally get called up at 3.5 hours, the doctor just says “here’s a muscle relaxer and a lidocaine patch” and doesn’t offer any advice on what to do to heal and fix the issue. I get sent off for my X-ray. The X-ray technician as he’s imaging me says “I’m supposed to be on my lunch break right now.” As if I was a nuisance and an inconvenience to him and it was my fault. He images my neck and then says “I’m clocking out.” And escorts me out the door. I go back to the front with no direction, and I’m confused. I go to the front again and ask for a copy of my X-rays. They said “sorry the X-ray technician is on break” so I waited another 45 minutes. I come back to the desk, realizing they gave no confirmation that I would get my X-ray when he’s back on break. I ask, “is he going to be done soon? Is there someone else who can help?” The lady says “oh, we’ll just upload it to your patient portal.” What patient portal? This is my first time here. I never made an account. The receptionist says, “ok I’ll set up your account. Oh yeah and you need to sign discharge papers.” So she forgot to check me out; I waited an extra hour after being seen for absolutely no reason, while in severe pain. Look, I know working at hospitals is a very stressful job. I know that many doctors are sleep deprived, and the staff see horrors. But I feel like they were all numb and incapable of proper communication. This place lacks empathy and kindness. The ER isn’t supposed to be a happy fun place by any means, but I do expect basic respect and perhaps some compassion would be nice. I watched the hospital staff be cold and dismissive to other patients who were there under worse circumstances than myself. It was awful and I regret going. I’m glad I wasn’t having a life threatening emergency, because I wouldn’t ever trust these people with my life.

Tonight I visited Randall children emergency room and it is been more than an hour and we are still waiting outside. After telling them that my son is not feeling good and is wobbly then the front desk wanted to give him medication without any doctors seeing him and his is fever is fluctuating more often from 108.3 to 100.6 and in between. And still we are waiting in the lobby. Very bad experience especially when your kids is very sick. And their answers was some emergency rooms have 4-5 hours waiting time.

Visit to cancer treatment ward, the staff is friendly and accommodating. The nurses are amazing, the rooms are small and old but the tech is up to date. Full time cleaning staff keeps everything spotless. Decent cafeteria, plenty of restrooms, excellent doctors.
