This memorial is beautiful, in the heart of Hoyt Arboretum. This Vietnam Memorial is an 8-acre outdoor war memorial dedicated to Oregonians who served in the Vietnam War. Dedicated in 1987, inspired in 1982 by visits to the national Vietnam Veterans Memorial by five veterans and the parents of a Marine killed in Vietnam. Landscape architecture firm Walker Macy of Portland designed the memorial, while construction labor and materials were almost entirely volunteer donations. The font used in the memorial was created for the exclusive use of the Memorial. It was designed by Janis Price, and is called Hoyt, in recognition of the Arboretum. Surely a place for praying thinking doing meditation. Place Discovered while hiking in Hoyt Arboretum

This is a great place to visit and take walk around our path that leads past each set of panels of fallen veteran's names for that year. I enjoy working on this place every year to help show that I will never forget them. Darrell Doke

Clean, well maintained. Fee parking across the street. Pay with app. Paved path through memorial. Gravel and dirt trails in area.

This garden is super peaceful and well maintained. It's designed in a bowl shape with spiral path that leada you from the bottom to top. Perfect for quiet enjoyment!

on the plaque for the years 1972-5, there is listed a George E Gllliland and a George Ernest Gillaland...something like that. Were these really two different people?

Very good question. Here is the publication link for the names listed (with more information on them), it has been updated at least once but there may be another update not published as the total count of names now exceeds 800. It only shows one entry for this name. I will check with the master list keepers.
