I have a love/hate relationship with the I-5 bridge as a driver. Quite clearly, it gets the job done, connecting Vancouver, WA and Portland, OR so you can cross state lines easily. However, it's always packed with bumper-to-bumper traffic, which has gotten worse over the years, especially nowadays. Rush hour can last all day, especially when you're in Oregon coming back to Washington. No warnings in advance when they pull the drawbridge up. At least you get a pretty view to stare at, I guess.

Crazy fun to walk across! The bridge shudders and shakes under the weight of every passing big rig. The walk/bike paths kind of hang off the side of the bridge.

Reviewing the bridge as a runner. Not the most spectacular bridge to run on but thanks to it, one can run between Portland and Vancouver (or rather, between Oregon and Washington)! Narrow lanes on both directions shared between runners and cyclists, with a steep slope in the middle, which can be quite dangerous if you are not paying attention to others or your own speed. Otherwise it's a nice bridge with decent views. Once over the bridge to the Vancouver side, the waterfront park is pretty and close to downtown; on the contrary, the Portland side is rather industrial.

The Drawbridge has never gone up. I like crossing this bridge OUT of Washington! It always seems to be cloudy and raining returning too Washington. Not to mention western Washington drivers are terrible!

On November 19th 2019, the mayors of Vancouver and Portland signed a memorandum to put aside $43 million to build an office (most likely in Vancouver) to draft ideas for the bridge replacement. With a final draft due by Dec 1st 2020. They could rent a studio apartment in downtown Vancouver for $9,500 for the same time period. Its ridiculous!
