I remember it like it was yesterday. One of the hottest days of the summer. Reluctantly, I took a chance and headed on in to the DEQ to get my car registered. On a Tuesday, mind you. I just knew it was going to be packed, but I went on ahead and made the commute. Lo and be hold, short lines in every terminal. The attendants were quick and friendly. I was in and outta there like a... Well nevermind. To say the least, It was a painless experience. Anyway, see ya in 2 years!

Quick and easy. No wait. No pets.

Great experience every time I went there over the years. They get the DEQ test and renew your registration at the same time which is very convenient. Be sure to bring the renewal registration notice you received in the mail and have your auto insurance card or a copy of it handy. Cheers

It was fine. One guy was nice and the other was sarcastic and gave me a hard time because I missed seeing a stop sign while I was looking for my mask, even though I apologized profusely and it was an honest mistake. I think it can be easy for them to forget that even though they work there everyday and know the ins and outs, the rest of us go every few years and the process isn't exactly intuitive.

Contact the DMV and they can sort you out. https://www.oregon.gov/odot/dmv/pages/vehicle/registration.aspx
Check, cash, debit. Have cash or check on hand. When my husband went, their card system was down. Fortunately he had his checkbook with him. Others weren't so fortunate and had to leave.
Oregon car tag stickers must be changed every two years. Your car must pass DEQ inspection to renew your registration and get new stickers. Pay for your new stickers here with your credit cards. Use DMV website to learn more.
If you are coming from out of state, just the vehicle and the title for reference (if you have it). If you have Oregon renewal paperwork from DMV, bring that, the vehicle, and proof of insurance. Save time by filling out #1 & #2 on the back of the form. $21 for DEQ + your DMV renewal fee. Cash or Card only, no checks.
The Oregon DMV allows DEQ to perform a vehicle identification number inspection on some vehicles only if an emissions test is required at the same time. DEQ will conduct a VIN inspection only in certain circumstances.
The fee for testing is $25. This is added to whatever fees are printed on your registration renewal letter. https://www.oregon.gov/odot/dmv/pages/fees/vehicle.aspx Also, new Multnomah County fees: https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/ORDOT/bulletins/2a92048#:~:text=For%20registrations%20expiring%20in%20January,%2478%20each%20two-year%20renewal.
Randy is wrong. In Portland, all vehicles between 1975 and 2017 need DEQ. I literally just pulled that info from the oregon govt website.
First obtain temp plate on line
DEQ does not take appointments. Just make sure you have your paperwork with you, your new registration forms, Etc, and make sure you have proof of insurance, and have your information entered on your renewal forms. Other than that, just show up. For most people it will be $181 for your tags and the test combined. It is $160 for tags normally, and $21 for the DEQ test itself. They will take cash credit or debit, They will not take personal checks that I'm aware of. Good luck!
No Anything past 25yrs I believe? (outside of Portland) If you reside within Portland you do.
Call back to the station
Most of the time, no. But it depends on the stored code that caused the service light to be on. Most of the codes are emission related which would indicate a problem which would cause the vehicle to fail testing at DEQ.
They plug in to your computer and check emissions data. If you have an older car without the computer they measure emissions from your exhaust pipe.
Yes it will pass your allowed 2 faults but if you have 3 or more they will not pass you
Absolutely, they don't ask for any paperwork really, unless you have a renewal notice, and they won't care if your name is not on it.
They do not take personal checks , But they will take money orders And of course credit cards and cash
All on the website. With a camera view to see how busy
no. no test if the check engine light is on. they will not do the test.
DEQ station fee is $21, if you are renewing your registration as well then it is an additional fee on top of the station fee.
You can disconnect your battery shortly. That will reset the check engine light. For example, you can count to 1...1thousan..2..1thousand.. And so on till 10..1thousand.
Yes The bays are quite large.
It depends on what county you are registered in. Multnomah is $150 DMV + $21 for DEQ.
I asked when it was finally my turn. The answer didn't make sense, but here it is... 1. Not all the lanes are equipped to do all cars. Yet, I watched all makes, models and years go to the short line. No apparent pattern. 2. I had my puppy in the car on the the way home from the vet. No dogs allowed in the short line. Yet only a handful of drivers in the long line had dogs. So, that didn't make sense. Bottom line advice... Don't take your dog. You will definitely go to the long line. Too bad they don't inform us. As in a sign that reads... "Be prepared to wait longer if your dog is present" or "For expedited service, take your dog home".
It's $21 for the inspection then you add the cost of renewal of your registration to that.
Just go to thier website. Who is going to knowbthat stuff?!
DEQ fee is $21.00. License fee depends on type of plates on the vehicle and "penalty" would imply some sort of infraction. Usually the "penalty" (most often) is the cost of repairs to bring the vehicle into compliance with current emission requirements. Unless you receive a citation from a police officer. Different styles of plates have different costs in Oregon, so it depends on what plates you have - from exempt, to custom, plain vanilla, or commercial types.
Yes. If you have your DMV renewal paperwork then YES you can get your tags at DEQ after passing the test and paying Renewal fee.
