Had a great banking experience here. I am a member with another credit union and they helped me with everything I needed. The team member was friendly and even offered me water. I appreciate that I can still bank somewhere physical downtown. There are also multiple locations so I am never stuck without a banking option. Also, my friend is a model on their ATM machines. How cool is that?!

Don't go to this branch. They will lie to you and will do nothing about it. I got paid on a Monday and my rent was due Tuesday, so I took my check to this branch after work to make sure it will clear in time. They inform me it won't, but if I can make it to the Sound Credit Union on 9th and Stewart by 5, they will cash it for me no problem. It's 4:35. So I rush over to Sound Credit Union where I'm informed that rep LIED TO ME, AND ALL THEY CAN DO IS DEPOSIT MY CHECK FOR ME. So I trek my ass back to this branch, inform said rep he lied to me and needs to figure out how to fix this issue, right now. He types on his computer for a while, and then walks away to talk to a manager, presumably. He comes back and informs me that even though he PROVIDED ME BLATANTLY FALSE INFORMATION, there was nothing they could do, my funds wouldn't be available until Wednesday because it's after 3. Had they just told me that and not lied to begin with, I'd be fine with this info. But he gave me information that led me to believe everything could be okay, and it almost wasn't. Thankfully, I called the call center, and the amazing agent that got me (his name was Melvin and he's awesome as hell) accepted the angry word vomit that came out of me when he answered, and calmly got my funds released while on the phone with him. If he was able to do it, there's NO REASON that branch could not have done it. They lied to me TWICE.

In the time that I've had BECU, I've been nothing short of frustrated with their lack of customer support. Today, I finally made the decision to close my account. 1) They don't have half an idea where ATMs exist. And if you end up using another banks ATM, don't expect getting reimbursed for the ATM fee. 2) They outsource EVERYTHING. Even basic things such as loans. When you're able to secure an interest rate of 3% on a student loan through another bank and BECU gives you a quote at 9%, what does that tell you? Not-for-profit my ass. 3) I learned the other day that there is no grace period on their student loans, unlike EVERY OTHER LENDER: including Sallie Mae! Just graduated from college? No job for a month? Why don't we destroy your credit by forcing you to pay back what you owe immediately! I'm fairly certain this is against current federal banking regulations. Here's some food for thought: if Federal Student Loans and other private banks can give you a better rate with more benefits, why would you even bank with these guys in the first place? 4) I cannot remember a time that I haven't spent less than 30 minutes waiting for a customer service representative at any of their locations. 5) The Washington State Attorney General's office has received 419 complaints about this bank in 2016 (just over a month). Currently, they have three investigations including two discriminatory lending practice cases. What does that tell you? The idea that you should be part of a credit union because the savings are passed down to members is a hoax. This bank is a scam.

What can I say? I was with large corp-banks for years and couldn't handle all the policy changes, the random fees and the terrible customer service. I was recommended to BECU when I finally had enough and I've never been happier; I have a savings and a checking and I recommend them to all my friends and family looking for a new bank. Best bank in Wasington, hands down!
