Pat Savage had a less than good experience at Pacific Cataract in Bellingham. I wanted to be able to see distance not close up. The first implant in my left eye was for close up. Opps, they made a mistake. They said they would redo it at no cost to me, how much my insurance co. paid I do not know. Each implant entails 4 trips to my eye Dr. in Anacortes, I live on Lopez. The second implant in my left eye is neither close or far distance. So they ask, do I want to try it again, No way. The implant in my right eye was correct So over is past year my right eye has become domenant and my left eye just goes along neither here or there. Beware!. Continue asking questions from the minute you enter the building to after you leave. The staff were very nice, and I know in every walk of life mistakes are made. They did offer to correct their mistakes. I did appreciate that. I LOVE my eye Dr. in Anacortes. Dr. Mel Farnsworth, he I would give 6 stars.

PCLI is a great place for Cataract and Laser treatments. Everyone there is so kind and helpful. They make you feel at ease. They have state-of-the-art equipment so treatments go much smoother. I had a cataract removed and didn't feel a thing! I highly recommend them!

No

I don't see any information on what insurance the Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute accepts. Does it accept Medicare and a secondary insurance?

Gael Shipstad | Aug 17, 2018
Roseamber Sumner | Aug 17, 2019

Yes, I am having surgery this week and they have sent me a letter that says Medicare will cover $375 per eye. I don't have supplemental, so can't answer that part, but assume it would also help to cover whatever is left.

Do you do the RLE surgery? How much does it cost and does medicare pay for it?

Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute | Jan 18, 2022

Yes, we do! RLE, or refractive lens exchange, is an alternative to LASIK laser vision correction. The eye's natural lens is replaced with a lens implant to provide sharper focus. RLE is essentially the same surgery we perform to remove and replace lenses clouded by cataracts. The cost is $2600 per eye plus $200 for follow-up care when a standard single-focus lens is selected. If a lens implant is chosen to reduce or eliminate dependence on glasses, several options are available and the cost is higher. Medicare does not pay for this procedure. If you have any other questions, call our RLE educators at 800-884-7254.

what are the one week post op physical activity limitations

Chad Peterman | Aug 16, 2020

No real physical limitations. No wearing eye makeup for 1 week before and 1 week after. And no swimming or anything where you would get water in your eyes for 1 week. I went back to work 2 days after surgery. It was very easy.

I have dry eye syndrome and use Restasis regularly. I have been told that Lasik is not a good option for me because of this. Is that still true?

Jill Elkayam | Aug 17, 2019
Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute | Aug 17, 2019

It would be best to call and speak with one of our refractive surgery counselors. They can be reached at 800-884-7254. If you have dry eyes now, you’ll have them after LASIK and the condition could be worse. But dry eye syndrome does not completely rule out LASIK.

I am wondering what the cost is for LASIK surgery?

Janice Bolles | Aug 17, 2018
Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute | Aug 17, 2018

Hi Janice. Thanks for your interest in our care. Our fee for LASIK is $1500 or $1800 per eye, depending on the technology option you select for the creation of your LASIK flaps. The fee includes in-depth pre-operative consultation and testing—in addition to what your referring doctor provides, the surgical procedure, availability of our doctors for care of any complication that may occur during the healing period and free enhancement treatment for life, if it is needed. Your family eye doctor has established fees for the important care they provide before and after surgery. Your doctor will evaluate your vision goals to determine if you are a good candidate, perform numerous eye tests and share the results with the surgeon and perform important follow-up exams. If you have any question, please speak with one of our knowledgeable counselors at 800-224-7254.
