We scheduled a girls weekend and massages a month in advance. The massages were cancelled literally the day before we show up, basically putting a big damper on our girls weekend. The manager claims they use third party vendors and it was out of their control...but they did confirm a month ago. My suggestion is, don't run a spa, accept appointments without therapist confirmation and then cancel on your clients the day before. Luckily another massage company close to the hotel saved the day. Actually I would forgive this place if they weren't so rude and non caring about messing up our weekend.

This is a review of SPA portion of the hotel. I booked a romantic spa package and experience had beed very meh. From the start, reception sent us down and we were greeted by closed doors and had to back to another floor to search for someone to let us in. Second, package initially offered body scrub and 60 min. massage. Plus bottle of champagne. Now they said will substitute scrub for added massage time (90 min total). We got an hour and 15 min massage. Third, champagne awaited us but no glasses! We had to look for someone to bring them. Massage part was good and relaxing, provider asked about problem areas and worked on them very well. But I can book just massage cheaper than 270 elsewhere. Massage provider ( an outside specialist) was kind enough to help us when we encountered issues. But overall it feels like hotel just forgot about servicing SPA. No SPA receptionist to welcome you and take care of you. Romantic experience was not there. Will not be back. I am writing this review not to complain rather let hotel management know what to improve. Hotel itself is very interesting and it is a shame they are missing out on adding great service for the spa.

My stay here was OK. First, the museum was interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed some of the artwork. It is also in an excellent location in downtown Durham. On the other hand, the room was ok. There were issues with the TV as well as flickering lights. We could also hear the neighboring room's toilet running whenever they used the restroom which was not ideal. I was able to speak with a staff member, Rob about these issues and he was extremely kind and helpful. For the price, I was expecting more from this experience. The hotel is very unique and interesting but fixing some of these issues would go a long way to create an enjoyable experience.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel last night and our experience mirrors a lot of the experiences from previous reviews which I wish I would have read before booking. The bed was uncomfortable. It had a plastic cover that made noise every time you moved. The pillows were flat. Our sheets had a hole in them. Every time someone walked by it woke us up, so we barely got any sleep. We could hear the elevator all night. There was no information available anywhere about the amenities, room services or anything. The room was much smaller than expected. This hotel was more like a road side hotel than the luxury boutique hotel advertised. We couldn’t get anyone to answer the phone to get room service even after calling after 10 am when they opened, which I only found out the hours after calling the front desk since there’s no information available anywhere. With that being said we had an amazing dinner at the restaurant and enjoyed the museum. I’d recommend visiting both and skipping the hotel. Aside from the location, there’s nothing exceptional about it.
