This is not an actual branch of the bank. The bank employee whom I spoke with was suspiciously vague and didn’t act politely like the ones in Thailand. She seemed unwilling to help and unmotivated to answer any questions. When I pressed her for information she gave me some info but it remains unclear as to what exactly they do here. According to her: They don’t provide any kind of service for anyone at this office. No opening, closing, transfers, loans, credit cards, or any other standard banking service. They only “deal with” (her words) “business to business” amounts “greater than 1 million USD”. When I asked about this process, she explained that all paperwork, details, authorization, etc. must be completed and approved at the main branch in BKK. The process takes several months. I asked her what happens here on the NYC end once all of that is done. She provided no answers, deflected, and insisted that I go to ask in BKK (which I’ll be doing next week). I’m not even sure why this office is here. I can only conclude that it’s some kind of physical location registered here to creat some legal loophole front for certain people to move very large sums internationally.

No one answers the phone during bank hours. I have regularly transferred money from my Wells Fargo account in California to my Bangkok Bank account in Thailand over the last three years. For some reason they have not accepted the transfer now and there is no one to answer any questions about why. I will need to crawl up the food chain here in Thailand to find out why this is happening. The international customer service representative here in Thailand said that they have had over 100 complaints about this recently. Typical to Thailand customer service though no one seems to have any solutions to problems.

I have similar issue. My thailand phone expired. No OTP no deposit or withdrawl. I am searching for answers. Looks like I am stuck. Anybody has answer????
I am trying to find out the same thing
In Thailand you obtain a notarized letter from the US Consular services on Wireless Road stating you are an American citizen. This requires an appointment made online. From there you go to a Bangkok Bank and show your passport and Non Immigrant retirement visa and the letter. This will allow opening the account. Then use the account info for your SSN. Bangkok Bank is the only bank in Thailand that can set up the SSN payment transfers for American citizens.
I realize your post is old but I submit this for newer readers as well. Bangkok Bank NY is a commercial bank, not a walk-in. You cannot open an account in NY. You must have an existing BKK Bank account in Thailand. Directions for setting up an account to electronically transferring funds from the US to Thailand are posted on Bangkok Bank Thailand's website. Once you have an account you must make arrangements with your financial institutions to set-up transfers. I live in Thailand and have accounts with 3 different Thai banks and never needed more than my passport and money to open each account. No letter from the US Embassy or work permit was needed. When you open an account in Thailand you get a bank issued ATM card. All the different banks have their own ATM's and they are everywhere. You cannot withdraw money from the NY branch by ATM or any other means. There are ATM's in the US that will accept foreign bank cards but the exchange rate and fees can be high.
I recently tried to do this exact transfer, Wells Fargo to BKK bank and it was unsuccessful due to the small amount of transfer trial deposit from Wells Fargo to BKK bank. Here in Thailand I went to my local BKK branch and they told because the trail transfers were so small (WFC typically sends like $0.12 cents that the system rejects it automatically. I called Wells Fargo to authorize a larger deposit like US$60 and they would not do it. So I’m still looking for a workaround on how to make the transfer happen so that I can do it online from my Wells Fargo account to the BKK account. Bangkok Bank officer, NY branch I have a question to ask. Item 1 Can we open an account? No. 2 How much can you withdraw? Thank you very much.
I use external transfers from my financial institution to Bangkok Bank New York (SWIFT code and/or routing number), which then goes directly into my Bangkok Bank account. I live in Bangkok mostly full-time and set all of that up online. You said “pension” so I assume you are not asking about Social Security, which can be arranged to go directly to BBL New York, as well, with SSA.
You should call bkk bank in Thailand and ask them if you can change your infos that associated with your accout.
I brought my passbook and my ATM card from Thailand and the woman in NYC wouldn't even look at it. I had a simple question about transferring money from Thailand to the USA and the woman in NY was extremely rude and wouldn't answer my question. She said they provide ZERO services for anyone in the USA and that I need to go back to Thailand and speak to them there. It seems that this "branch" is only here for people to funnel money out of the country from USA to Thailand (one way). You can do that anyway with any other Thai bank. This branch is useless.
