Waited in line for hours with the homeless, just to be told they wasn't taken applications for housing. Did get to see fights in the street. The smell is unbearable.

Great org that does the best work!

I just drove by go up there they help with thing
Hi Gypsy, You would need to speak to our Beacon Law division at The Beacon. I know that they work very well with our clients in all legal aspects and have a tremendous success rate handling issues as you asked about. Please see our Intake Coordinator who can better assist you in contacting Beacon Law.
YES just go next door to the beacon at Compass and they will take care of you
No you can come in on Tuesday and Wednesday between the hours of 9am to 3pm. You will need to enter through the iron gate entrance on San Jacinto Street where you would normally exit the Beacon Thursday through Monday. Enter through the door marked "Compass".
Best to call and explain the situation
There's all kinds of government programs for housing in Harris county. Most Federal. All you need to do is find out what one suits your needs. Try Beacon. But you have to line up 4 or 5 in the morning. And if you don't follow their program, your out
Ummm because it is the government. .. would you like to help me pressure them to do so?
Where do I go to register for homeless housing? What if I'm in school?
No. They are quite limited as to what they can help with. I need to file a restraining order and have the present in court. They declined.
Yes you can but you will need a homeless letter that they will provide there then you get aet up with an appointment with operation id. Its a 2 step process
Hello, you need to pick up a Homeless Letter from the Beacon because you qualify for Plan Zero at the very least. Learn more here: http://houstoncasemanagers.com/how-to-apply-for-harris-health-gold-card/ I wish you the best!
Yes, it may not happen as quick as you would like. But yes. Yes
If u have id but its not vaild will they still let accept u and u collect ssi
Talk to the counselors at the beacon, they should be able to help
Yes laundry and open 7am till about 1 or so
The safest place to park is the Metro park and ride at the Quitman Metro Rail stop. That way you can catch the train back to the Preston stop and walk down.
With housing only. Ask for Annie at compass, and tell her your situation. Tell her Jerry sent you. God bless π π β€οΈ
Be there early and no fighting
No it's not open today, Will reopen on Thursday, Friday Saturday Sunday. If you need to see case management you can do that ,apply for Snap ( food stamps) You can get breakfast, laundry done, showers and have lunch also . Best of Luck
1212 Prarie
Come by Compass by 7am and see they can assist you with what you need
I Agree with you. However, I don't like the attitude there. All the street urchins are nasty and ugly and instead of food, they want cigarettes and drugs. How pathetic!
Yes
Be careful
Lunch is served mondays thru fri.. 11am-1pm.. Laundry on thursday. Between 8 and noon first come first served... Checkin at the desk and handle your biz.....βπΎ
If u mean WHAT they help with well, everything or they can guide u or set u up with those who can. Housing, mental, physical, spiritual. I have seen dogs in there before but keep in mind different rules apply sometimes with different crews. Good Luck. Also try Salvation Army Family Center on McGowan and Travis I think.
Yes they are open on Monday but don't do housing on monda Thursday and Friday's
Trying calling the star of hope for family
There are several agencies in the building. Compass or Beacon law. As I stated before they open at 7 AM and there are a LOT of people. Compass only take a few(10) I think. Get there at least 1 hour early 1.5 hrs if you're going to compass. Good luck.
Yes...
They have resources. I don't know how long it takes them to help a person. But they do help with housing.
No they do not provide shelter. they only provide day services but may be able to place referrals. Their intake hours for clients is before 11am if not mistaken.
They have one right next door
They can assist you with it. They also have apartments they can put you in. I don't know how long the waiting list is. They are able to assist you with just about anything.
Great people especially in the hygiene and laundry dept Tateana is running the dept well
Get there early to stand in line and register first time to shower, lunch, laundry, cathedral clinic, see a counselor a lawyer they have what you need here and can guide you to the rest.
They already have my referral.. I was approved, then denide because I'm not on phyco meds...they told me to come back at 7:00am mon.- Fri.to find another possible program.4th time I've tried and it's getting extremely frustrating
I would get there 6 or 630...
Unfortunately, no one location feeds 7 days a week. The Beacon serves lunch, offers showers and laundry services Thursday through Monday. We are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. There is another location by the name of Loaves & Fishes that offers lunch Tuesdays through Saturday from 10am to 11:30am. Trinity Church offers Breakfast on Sundays following Church Services/Mass at 7am. After that you are welcome to join us at the Beacon for lunch on Sunday. All three are located close together and can be reached by walking or utilizing public transportation. Best bet would be to come to The BEACON and register with our Intake Coordinator, Tiffany, who will be able to assist you with more information on the resources Houston has to offer. I would suggest that you try to be there as close to 7am as possible on your first time to register. Please let me know if there is anything else I might be able to assist you with. Have a great day, Sal
Yes they do please ask for Ron at the front desk
Yes they can help just be in line early Tuesday thru Friday open at 7am tell them u trying to get a caseworker and they'll help U
Inquire...inside lm sure they can guide you in the right direction
ON Tuesday AND Thursday THAT DO HOMELESS Assignment
Yes it's open don't know it's hours..
Ask Mr.Johnson what he suggests you do. I'm not too familiar with how the Beacon does things. I was there to see my lawyer at Beacon Law.
It depends if u get on rapid rehousing or permanent housing. Rapid u gonna have to pay after 3 months permanent is what it is permanent
No, the thing is, you have to get there at an appropriate time, even though the doors open at 7am, understand that you needs to be there at 4am to get in line in order to be seen and get what you need, after the first 10 to 15 people, everyone else is turned around to try again the next day. The best days to go are Tues & Thurs. You are welcome...Trust the Process π
Laundry and meals are free, just give them a call first
Hello Ms. Tonya The Beacon can help you get housing But they only take 15 people a day It will be a line and people are desperate to get in You should be there early Monday night so you can make sure you get a spot in line when they open the gate at 7:30 Tuesday morning If you get a spot in the first fifteen to be seen When they interview you they will ask you some questions Remember your homeless and don't have anything so that's how you answer the questions If you get foodstamps and disability that's fine You can tell them if they ask Think about how you answer the questions They trying to find out if you really need housing or not
Check the mail at where ever you have it delivered to, just like any other person getting mail.
All the services are in person
Beacon gets you on the housing list but that isn't an immediate placement. You would have to stay like a shelter. They do assist with other services. Also SEARCH next to Loaves and Fishes can help with getting on housing list. I have seen many getting housing recently since the Pandemic...I believe Houston has extra fundings. Other services at the Beacon are showers.. laundry.. lunch.. The ID is with Houston Police Homeless Outreach Team...
They are a day drop in center they offer a variety of services however they drop in center appears closed due to covid-19 however ask the security officer how to access their services for better info
6 to 10
You can always call and find out, with covid things are slow right now
Yes
I would say about 10 10:30. In addition loaves and fishes still serve
Yes
No it is through the Compass next door. As far as I know you can not da the application online. And compass is only open on certain days though I don't know which ones
Have your id and ss. There are free bus routes downtown and for sure the services at the beacon can help with housing, food stamps, etc. if you dont mind the long wait and process.
Just be careful and don't allow them to bull rush you
Couples for π€π€π€
It all depends on your score I know some people that got placed in 6 months others that have been waiting for 2 years.
Approximately 130
The Beacon web site says intake is on Mon, register by 8am but the lines are usually long so I suggest to arrive early.
Yesj
Goto Beacon early Mon and Tuesday they will give you options If addiction n alcoholism are an issue goto 24 hr club lyerly they will give you options Main street ministries/operation Id 5100 Travis has many services tooo
Depends on your income.
Really nothing but call before you come you will get your mail at compass next door you will have to check in the beacon front desk to get in the system
Inside the Beacon there is a place called compass. They only take the first 10 so u have 2 b there VERY early, about 5:30. The line is long. They open at 7 AM.
The beacon. Catholic Charities on 300blk of Jensen.
Yes people do sleep outside. But you can also show up at 7 in the morning .Gates don't open up until I think 8 am. People sleeping don't usually even get up until 8. Just stand in front of the gate and you well beat the people sleeping by the gate.
Well that a good question,I got mines from sabc
The beacon helps with all of those things
You could go to the public library on Wednesday at 12 noon in the auditorium, to watch a recent movie, snacks and sometimes after or doing the movie. You can ask the lady that plays the movies. Or any shelter or the sobering clinic as well.
Closed Tuesday and Wednesday
Dont know I walked past it and it says I been there . There are always alot of homeless people there smoking kush outside the gates
Go there,be early, sign in, let them know what you need Wait for them to call your name. Be prepared to stay most of the day. They will serve you lunch. It's a process it won't happen in one day.
Yes, you can also eat and receive other services while you wait.
A gold card is basically an insurance card. It allows u to access the Harris Co. medical system with little or no money plus meds.
That would be Compass not the Beacon. I don't know for sure but I would guess not.
At the cathedral clinic next door
Monday thru Friday 8a.m to 2p.m
7am, but be there by 6am. Because the line will be long. A lot of people start lining up at 5:45am.
I've been a few times. Monday-Friday You have to be in line about 6:30 in the morning. They will do as much as they can to help. Even if it is just to let you know where to go. You can eat while you're there. If you need housing or legal assistance, they have it. But you have to have patience. You may be there all day. Don't give up before the miracle happens.
Next door to the beacon At the WAY HOME Helps with housing
Not. Sure
Monday and tuesday 6:00 am
There is one line going in the front door. It will be so long. You can miss it You'll see a lot of homeless people in it.
I think so!
You only need to bring yourself. But if you have any thing with your name on it That's a plus. For your id you will have to get a homeless letter from the beacon. It's free they will help you get everything you need to bet your id and Beth certificate
Best days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays because there are less people and you have better chances of being seen. But you still have to come very early be there by 7 am.
Call your case worker
Compass is next door to the Beacon, they can give you a referral to Operation ID
The beacon will choose you one
? Question
I'm not sure that they can. But you can always inquire with them.
Well I got there at 4 in the morning and I was first in line and that was on a Wednesday usually he going Wednesday you can be there at 5 or 6 in the morning and you can be up at the head of the line they open at 8 and any other day of the week you better be there by 4 a.m. or you you won't get in
6am
Just show up, sign up and wait for a couple of hours.
You better get there at 6 though and stand in line. They only see about 10 people a day. If you get there at 8:30, know you'll be going back another day. It's best to go there on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when the beacon is closed. They have another office that handles housing called the way home. The line will be less on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
7am and yes Thursday-monday
If you go there in person you'll have better service and better information than calling. I believe Compass, which is in the same building as the beacon, can help with obtaining a birth certificate
They are closed on Tuesday and Wednesday so i think any day other than those two days
No men and women. Opens at 7am
It really depends on the individual I applied for housing last month and got it last month
Beacon law can help
Salvation Army for Women on McGowen
Go to the beacon they will guide you from there.
Depending on your profile (for example if you have a disability), that determines how much time you have to wait. Generally, it takes months, even years.
Yes only the first 10 persons served Suggest you sleep outside and beat the crowds Sorts open 7am Crowds form line starting at 5am
I probly look somewhere else because of limited people per day and you have to be extremly early thanks
As far as I know, they don't give homeless letters, but they might refer you to where you can get one. Try IMPACT, or spend a night in a homeless shelter and they'll give you a homeless letter.
yes you should be able to.
you can't stay together unless you are married or with children
They might be able to help with the ID. They'll give you a reference letter which you'll then take to Operation ID on 5100 Travis Street
May you send the address so I can come there? My name is Brandon Gage. I just moved here but Iβm originally from Shreveport, Louisiana. I need a place to stay and help finding a job.
Yep they have some people to maybe help with that a lawyer and stuff I guess be there like 7 or 730am
If they can't then they will point you in the right direction...
There no wi-fi available at the Beacon anymore.
Go talk to the folks at the beacon. They will feed you, do your laundry, and put you in touch with every agency that can help you out to get you back on your feet. Good luck and God bless
h
If your getting laundry washed its best to be there before 9am laundry sevices fill up quick
Yes...operation ID...also if you go to the Beacon they will be able to give you more places that could help you.
Hi Melinda....are you homeless at this time? We are open Thursday through Monday from 7am to 2pm. You can shower daily. We can also do up to 16 pounds of laundry very other day and provide you a hot lunch everyday. We don't have any beds to sleep on but you can definitely rest there during the hours we are open. Please come by tomorrow and let me enroll you for our services. We can chat afterwards and I will be happy to get you more information on other resources that you may be eligible for. I will be there from 7am until noon so please ask for me hen you arrive. Hope to see to tomorrow morning. Sal
They can help you if your looking for help but everything is up to the person you got to want it.....
