Best gym ever, everyone is beyond welcoming and motivated. Can’t recommend enough. All the instructors are more than happy to take extra time with you. If I could put 10 stars I would.

I'm a beginner at jiu jitsu and the atmosphere here is great! Professor Jimmy is awesome! Everyone is so helpful. Checkmat Tacoma is the place to be.

I've trained BJJ at T-Town for two years now (after first starting BJJ at another gym out of state), and it's got a great vibe. Healthy ecosystem with a vast array of instructors, which means diversity in teaching style and approach. I think they've found a solid mix of high quality teaching while simultaneously creating this like supportive atmosphere where everybody around you wants to see you grow and improve. For anybody considering trying BJJ for the first time, it's like one of the toughest exercises. And maybe that feels intimidating or whatever. But for me, it's been an amazing treatment for depression and - not to mention - that feeling of pride and accomplishment you get when watching yourself improve each week or month. T-Town figured out how to create the ecosystem essential for all that to happen.

I'm new to BJJ and have only been with T-Town for ~6 months. I wasn't sure I'd stick with it after my trial class, but what made me officially sign up were the people. When I say everyone has been welcoming, I mean every single person. The patience and sincerity in this gym is beyond amazing. The business itself is very accommodating; willing to work with you on any questions you might have. I also love that there are several types of classes you can attend at your leisure. I do wish there were adult classes in the earlier evening, but it hasn't been a deal breaker at all. Overall, still 5 stars - highly recommend!

Yes adult beginners are very common. Professors Jimmy and Rollo do a very good job of making the gym a family environment.
No sir, however, there are JKD and Kali classes taught here m-f at 11 am and Saturdays at 2 by an Inosanto Lineage instructor (myself) And the jujitsu is VERY sharp at TTown
