We impulsively booked the Sound Tour during a weekend trip to Seattle. It was amazing! Riley was our guide and was very knowledgeable and kind- never once did they make me feel like my inexperience would be an issue (I'd never even stepped foot in a kayak before). If we ever find ourselves in the area again- we will definitely go again- it was the perfect escape from the city. Thank you again!

We had a wonderful time on our kayak adventure with Ballard Kayak. Jay was our guide and she was wonderful! She was so knowledgeable about the area and she shared her knowledge with us. I loved how passionate she was about kayaking and her love of the community was evident. Although Ballard Kayak was closed for the season, she still accommodated us. My family felt very safe on our kayak adventure. It was a perfect adventure and was our favorite part of our trip to Seattle from Utah. Hi Jay! Can't wait to come back and do it again!

My husband & I went out on a group kayak tour today and honestly, I just thought my husband was really bad at kayaking. LOL! The staff helped so much & were very patient with us... then we realized my husband, who is a lifelong type 1 diabetic, was actually going into a dangerous low. He physically could not continue & we were quite a ways from the dock. One of the guides took us for an emergency landing on shore & called for a dingy. The owner came immediately, bringing items with sugar as well, as my husband had already used everything he brought yet was still low. They were so understanding & kind and let us sit for awhile until his blood sugar began to come up a bit again before bringing us back to the dock, kayak in tow. Once we arrived back, they helped get my husband off the dingy, got all the protective gear off him, to a bench & offered additional things like soda or candy. To say they went above & beyond today doesn't begin to cover it! The safety protocol & training were great, the tour guides were awesome & we'd recommend this to anyone. Even in the short time we were out we saw nursing seals, multiple bald eagles, salmon jumping in the water; it was wonderful! Great company; thank you so much!

My two kids and I had an awesome experience renting kayaks from Ballard Kayak and Paddleboards. We rented a double and a single kayak. The people working at Ballard Kayak and Paddleboards were extremely friendly, very knowledgeable and helpful. We rented the kayaks for two hours, next time we will probably rent them for 4 hours. We had so much fun, we saw between 5-10 different seals within 5-15 yards from. My son saw a whale. It was well worth the money and we will be going here again in the future.

Questions & Answers

Can I bring my own kayaks??

Hello Rosie, Thanks for reaching out! You can definitely launch personal kayaks from the dock as we use a public dock, but we ask that personal kayaks not be brought along for one of our guided tours. Hope that helps! Ballard Kayak Team

What age can children be to participate in the tour.

Hello Pilgrim, Thank you for reaching out to us! The minimum age for a tours is 9 years old. Although we want to remind the parents that the kayaks we paddle in are pretty big and a 9 year old child won't be able to help too much, so we recommend the parent be aware that they'll be paddling a large kayak by themselves. Hope that helps! Ballard Kayak Team

I know these are probably a dumb questions but, is the location next to the water? Is there a designated area for kayaking or is it more like a free roam? I've never done this before so I'm trying to figure it out

Their booth is next to the water, and there are docks you will utilize to climb into the kayak (after receiving directions). The guides assist and they haven't had a kayak turnover in years. There will be two guides that will guide you into the more open water. There are boats as well, but not the huge yachts, lots of them are residential and not moving. There is nothing to be scared about.
