If this gem is not on your bucket list of trails then your bucket list is severely deficient! WOW is all I can say. So many options. Spectacular views. Well marked and maintained trails wide enough to walk side by side with your honey if you’d like! The trails are easy to light moderate and take you through open fields, under a canopy of trees and along the shore. If you travail in July or August you might enjoy some of nature’s treats - wild raspberries in abundance. My only complaint is dogs are not allowed. But sometimes they need a day off. If you walk the whole trail, about 9 miles, you’ll enjoy views of the bay looking East, Gardiner’s Bay, the north shore of the Hamptons, the tip of Montauk, Bug Light, Orient Point and Plum Island. An absolutely beautiful hike.

Just a beautiful place to visit

Great place to see salt marshes and lots of birds. I would recommend visiting in the Fall because it’s really hot and buggy here during summer.

There is a small parking lot, no permit or fee.
Yes, as there are many ticks at all nature preserves on L.I. If you stay on the hiking trails and dress appropriately, you should be ok. Dogs are not allowed here.
Because it is an ecological preserve dogs are not allowed at all.
According to the boaters guide for the town of shelter island, "Mashomack Preserve Shore access and landings are prohibited along the shoreline of Mashomack Preserve" sorry looks like no boat landings
No. You may be looking at website of a different Mashomack Preserve located in the Hudson Valley that is a private hunting, fishing and shooting club.
No reservation required. Recommended donation requested.
