We're seen right away concerning a lost kitten my daughter found in her back yard. Black and white extremely friendly about 4 months old and a white store on his back leg and a little pink on his nose.

Fantastic staff! They go above and beyond for the animals!
I rescued my dog Alice last June 2018. My husband and I took her to our Vet and made sure she was vacinmated and took her to a groomer. She was dirty and very hungry..
Ask them if they give free food.
This shelter does not euthanize any animals unless they have to due to certain terminal illness or injuries. They never euthanize because an animal isnt getting adopted for a certain amount of time. If that is the case then they move the animal to another shelter in hopes that someone will adopt the animal there. This shelter is very humane.
I am doing a spring cleanup and I have blankets, comforters and bed pillows. Would you be interested in the bed pillows?

I believe they will take everything but the bed pillows. Those can be donated at savers or a thrift store

Sometimes they get in bunnies and guinea pigs, and on rare occasion, farm animals.
Do you still hold records of the animals that where spayed? My cat is 17 and half old. I relocated to to Florida,, they want proof of when she was done?

no we had to put our dog to sleep, and we never used them before that
I am anxious to volunteer but have been told they are not open to the public yet. When will they reopen? I tried calling but no answer.

They are open to the public by appointment only. I doubt they will be taking new volunteers for a while, though. Check with some of the other local rescues - Save a Pet in Port Jefferson, or Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton. They might be in need of more volunteers.
If someone can no long take care of there animal what should and can they do?

Some Animal shelters will adopt them. And try to find new homes.
We have a neighbor which has a dog that is nasty to our dog and us when we go into our yard it jumps into the fence barks viciously the owners try to bring it into there house it does not listen it gets more agitated they then go in the house
Sharon. Just call the shelter, to be 100% sure. there are very affordable ! A donation for the shelter is what they need. Wishing you a bless holidays. Be safe
You are asking the wrong question. You have that dog which is family and a lifetime commitment. Contact dog trainers and work with them to make it a cohesive situayion. Obviously you had that dog first and should be your main concern. A shelter is no place to dump your dog. Work it out it will not take long. Possibly 1 time with a trainer. And not an expensive. Please I beg you
Shelters are horific to any home lived dog. Pleade try to.work it out. PLEASE
Please reach out to the shelter directly to discuss your options. This is a kill shelter, however they do try and find homes for all their dogs as best they can.
I understand there was a recent arrest of a dog breeder, how can I adopt one of the dogs?

I believe that they do but I cant say definitely. Your best bet would be to contact them to find out for sure. Heres a link for the shelter https://www.brookhavenny.gov/152/Animal-Shelter
we just lost our little 4.5 pound chihuahua and she lived since a baby with us for 11 years , s so we are interested in a little 4-6 pound small loving doggy? near Suffolk county LI NY
You can put either a cat or a dog up for adoption here. Either call in advance to find out the exact procedure or bring the animal to them during business hours.
Any adoption at Brookhaven will automatically have its shots,spay/neuter done before the animal is allowed to go home. There is no choice to not have it done.
I'm trying to find out specific information on one of your dogs, Clyde. I've called twice but it just rings until it disconnects. I'm Crossposting him to try and find him a home. I need to know how he is with other pets.

Probably no one is there answering phones today with the snow.
Feral cat shelters are filled with straw. Straw and hay are two totally different things. Hay is food for horses to eat. Hay gets soggy and moldy when wet. Straw is bedding. It repels moisture to a point and is thermal. You want the shelter filled with straw.
