I adopted the best cat from here! I love her so much and had a wonderful experience with the shelter and the employees. Definitely do consider adopting from Indianapolis Animal Care!
Christena & Rob Hammes
They do their best to save animals and their foster program is great and so is try before you adopt. Many wonderful animals waiting for their forever, indoor homes. Plenty of love and kisses To go around.

Ive adopted one dog and fostered another through IACS. First of all, thank you IACS for providing me with a lifelong friend! I fostered another dog recently as well, and unfortunately it didn't work out in my home for him, the intake crew was very kind and helped me work through everything and I hope that dog finds an excellent home. They will do everything they can to make sure that pets are provided with a safe and healthy environment.

the staff was very friendly and helpful. i absolutely love that the fees for these fur babies are waived. the animals are all very well taken care of. i just adopted a baby kitten last friday and she came spayed and with all vaccines minus her rabies shot due to how tiny she is. she is a happy, healthy, and very loving little kitten!! i 100% recommend them for anyone looking to adopt a fur baby!!!
Thanks! Your review is awaiting moderation.
Just some information I want to include! I'm a volunteer at IACS. We aren't a not kill shelter... YET. To be qualified as a no kill shelter you need to have a "survival" rate of 90%. It is publicly funded, and they are required to accept all animals regardless of space. However, they do NOT euthanize for space. Only for cases where the animal is too sick, has severe (and I mean severe) behavioral issues, etc. The only way to help them become "no kill" is to volunteer, foster, adopt. I hope this helps!
If you're rehoming, please charge a fee and/or get to know the person youre entrusting with a life. Criminals prey on craigslist dogs to be used as bait dogs for dogfighting rings.
Dawn Stamper, that was pretty rude.. but anyways, you never know what you'll find! Yes the likelyhood of the exact thing you're looking for is low but possible. They can also hook you up with the numbers to a rescue that focuses on a certain breed in the area. Good luck, I hope you find your perfect fur butt and live happily ever after. Don't be discouraged by miserable people..
All different kinds of dogs. Unfortunately a high number of them seem to be "pit bull" and "pit-bull" mixes. It sounds like it would be a great place for you to look into rescuing another dog. I was disappointed due to breed restrictions where I live.
It depends on the amount of animals the shelter has. As of today, cats are free until Oct 1st.
60$ is the adoption fee which includes shots, spay/neuter & Microchipped. Specials run often so just watch their wesite or FB page.
Adoptions are free until the end of the month.
To adopt from our shelter you will need to visit and meet the animal you are interested in. All of our available animals can be viewed on our website.

Hi Dennis, thank you for reaching out to us. We are typically closed or close early on the 4th of July. If you have questions about a future holiday please reach out to us .
I don't think it costs anything. I went to surrender my two cats there this past tuesday. I'm sure you have to call to make an appointment then they want you to fill out a form. I would just call and explain your situation and I'm sure they can help.
I adopted a kitten last week they didn't charge me, it was Free. I do not know if they were having a free adoption special? I have heard it's $25.00 if approved to adopt.
We scan all incoming animals for microchips. We recommend visiting the shelter to search for your lost pet.
Free with a donation of $10 cash or supplies for all of July
We got a dog 2 weeks ago and the fee was $5.00
Look into a program called SOAR initiative. Not part of the shelter, but their entire mission is to help owners keep their pets during hard times and they are local to Indy

The shelter no longer does meet and greets, as we learned that it was not a good indicator for adoption success in the home. We instead implemented a 2 week trial adoption program called, Cuddle Before You Commit. To participate all you need to do is let adoption staff know at the time of your adoption.
Idk but you are welcome to call the office
This decision would be up to our shelter management.
We only have so many people working at a time and are almost always understaffed. We often can't get to the phone right when people call but if you could leave us a voicemail with your name and phone number, we will get back to you shortly!
Call the office
It is they are outdoor animals, if they get use to being hand fed and adapted to living in a home, then they will not be able to be outdoor livable

Not today, check with Southside Animal Shelter, 1614 w Edgewood Ave
All of our available animals are listed on our website. We do also feature animals on our Facebook and Instagram pages. We have been doing more recently with our Twitter account.
You'll have to ask the actual animal Care facility, as this is run by Google users. They may not have a "germanshaped" though...
It's maintained largely by volunteers. They simply don't have the manpower to update the website in real-time. Germans are popular so they are going to go very fast. There are a few things you can do to help: 1) volunteer 2) vote for politicians that will raise their budget 3) donate to them.
We are able to take in owner surrender animals. Please contact our Intake Staff to discuss the best time to come in.
Adoptions are free with a minimum $5 dollar school supply donation through August 31st
Sandra, Please please help the animal control to save a life, because they eventually will be put down .I like about them and most of our shelters around is that you can go online and see pictures of the dogs they have please think about this we have a Southside shelter and other shelters I can't think of right now but please check them out on the Internet or maybe even call 211 they can help you with the different shelters in your area . SAVE A LIFE by going your shelter 🥰

I don't know about your chip specifically, but they don't really work like a GPS. They are scanned when a dog comes into the shelter and they can see the ID information from it. Unfortunately your puppies would have to be brought into the shelter to find them ☹️
Sorry, you need to call the shelter directly, this is members of the public, just helping each other. We don't work there, and it changes every day/hour.

Honestly just because someone asked if they don’t have to pay for a dog don’t mean they don’t have the money to pay for one. It was a clear question “ do he have to pay to get one” if you didn’t know the answer you didn’t have to comment. Anyone will take a free dog over paying for one if they had the Choice to.
We can definitely use newspaper at the shelter!
You just need to be able to prove that you are responsible owner. And I believe there is an adoption fee, I believe it is 40 or 60 bucks. When I went there they were having a deal with no adoption fees. You also must make sure the cat is spayed or neutered, or has an appointment with the vet. They will let you take a cat even if it is not spayed or neutered, but you need to set an appointment to get it spayed or neutered within a week. This will be free and animal services will provide it for you.

It depends on what you mean by kill. There are times when they have to humanly euthanize. They do not go around and say oh you are dieing today. They do not let animals suffering just so they can say they are a "no kill"
We are not able to offer public veterinary services. We recommend Face Clinic, West Michigan St Vet Clinic or Indy Humane's Downtown Clinic.

We offer same day adoptions for animals that are spayed or neutered.
There is a special right now for senior 6 years old and over, as well as long term residents, but the normal adoption fee is $60 which includes vaccines, heartworm test, microchip and spay/neuter. The costs of dog ownership/feeding/veterinary care add up quickly and sometimes unexpectedly, so if the cost is going to be an issue you definitely want to look at your budget as well as local resources such as FIDO's monthly pet food pantry and ask about low cost veterinary care too. There are lots of resources available in our city if you know where to look for them!
We are not able to offer cremation services. We recommend contacting a vet office or Homeward Bound Pet Memorial.
We have fosters that work to socialize cats and kittens. If a cat truly does not do well in a home environment we have a barn cat adoption program.

You have to go in and see if they picked it up. They won't tell you over the phone. Plus if they did, be ready for some citations, they love to give those out for what ever B.S. they can come up with. Also they are trained to aggressively take your license so they can hold it against you. If you can't pay or for what ever benefit for them. Just be careful off these ppl. Their is an app. On facebook that alot of ppl use for lost animals in different areas. It might be helpful.
