Phoenix Sky Harbor International is a good airport for travel, but it is a very large airport and can be hard to navigate if you are picking up someone from the airport. The internal portion of the airport is pretty easy to navigate, but outside the airport if you have to pick-up someone can be quite very confusing, due to the airport having polar opposite sides for each terminal. Also, the rental car terminal is not very close to the airport terminal. Overall, this is a good airport, just build in some extra time if you’re picking up someone or dropping off rental car.

The new Terminal 3 is very nice with quite a variety of dining and shopping. The new interiors are clean and modern. It’s not freezing cold either, which is nice. There are large restrooms and plenty of seating, including a small children’s play area with a control tower slide. I tried the mustache pretzel by the F gates. Meh. A little dense and over cooked on the bottom. Also way too oily, which it’s dunked in before salt. I got all oil no salt. I also got a soup and salad from Panera. Weirdly, nobody sells fountain soda that I found, but you can buy bottles.

There was alot of very friendly airport staff here that were also quite helpful. This place has the most efficient and friendly ICE federal checkpoint I have been through. I almost gained hope in airports again after going through here on a trip back from MX.... almost. Then I hit the TSA checkpoint and it had 2 of 6 lanes open, lines backed up for a 30 minute delay and tsa staff that couldnt give a Sxxx if you made it to the terminal to catch your flight. Fortunately I had lost hope in any sort of quick passing through of a airport and give myself a 2 hour buffer on international flights. Nice work to whoever runs the federal ICE section, the opposite to the TSA section, get it together please....

I've flown in and out of sky harbor many times and not had too many problems. However, this is my first night flight and I find it seriously frustrating that there is about a 1% chance of finding something to eat before a night flight; especially when other terminals are closed. The two places that were open for the night were the Wildflower and Starbucks. Wildflower is a sandwich shop that only serves its daily leftovers after a certain time. And then theres Starbucks. I strongly feel that an airport, especially an international airport, could do a little better at having some food options for the plethora of people that pass through at night time. Very frustrating.

Count on continuing to be annoyed Mr Ayala. Later this year Sky Harbor will begin to move the airlines from terminal 2 into terminal 3. Then Sky Harbor will level terminal 2 and finish building the construction of the Sky Train tracks. Sometime in 2020 Sky Harbor will complete their project.
