One of the best decisions I made was deciding to give Gale a try at the Family Counseling Place! I have now been seeing her off and on for a few years, and I have continually received the help I need. Gale is absolutely wonderful at helping me feel seen and understood, and she is a great confidant with whom to sort through thoughts and feelings. She gave me the tools to fight depression and improve my self-image, and I would not be where I am today without her!

Saw Melissa Walker for several months. Stopped because she seems to have race issues, specifically with Black people. I became tired of the racial undertones and passive aggressive remarks. Please stop trying to counsel the public if you have race issues. I will never return to Family Counseling.

I saw Melissa at Family Counseling Place and am very happy with the progress I've made in my mental health and the skills I have acquired to help me continue to make progress. Melissa is knowledgeable in several different theories and methods, and worked with me to find which was most helpful for my situation in each session. She employed just the right amount of "push" to keep me continually moving forward, which I really appreciate. She also recognized the days when I just needed to "be" and held a safe space for me to do so. I never left feeling like the hour had been wasted. The office space is a bit dated in decor, and the rooms were a bit chilly to me. I couldn't hear other clients while in the waiting area and never felt concerned about others hearing me.

I am so grateful that Family Counseling Place exists. I've been seeing Melissa weekly for at least the past 6 months. I was hesitant to try therapy at first. I honestly didn't think that I would be able to open up as much as I have. There have been many, many, many times that I've thought about ending my sessions but I am so happy that I stuck with it. I've been able to learn so much about myself and I have gained lots of insight. I HIGHLY recommend Melissa. She is knowledgable and really cares about her clients/patients. Melissa also offers EMDR to all of her clients. I had my first EMDR session on Monday and it met my expectations entirely. After months and months of my eyes feeling like the Sahara Desert, I was finally able to have an emotional release (crying never felt so good). I've always known that therapy was something that I wanted to try and I am so blessed to have found Melissa. I'm sure that there are other amazing therapists but I don't know if I would have been able to connect with them as much as I have with her. IMO it doesn't matter who you are or how big or small your problems are... talk therapy is incredibly useful and life changing. I still have a lot of work to do but each week I am healing more and more.

Questions & Answers

What are the cost options here? Anything low income or free?

Christianna Carpenter | Oct 26, 2019
Gale Hartschuh | Oct 26, 2019

The cost depends on the amount of time you spend with the therapist. Some people choose a 45-minute session for $125. Or you can choose an hour session for $150. You can go longer than these; the price is prorated by $25 every additional 15 minutes. We do sometimes offer discounts for those who are struggling financially. Thank you for your question!

Do they take insurance

We are not on any insurance panels. If you want to use insurance, we can give you a "superbill" so that you can file for reimbursement yourself. You would receive out-of-network benefits.
