I spent a few nights at the Charleston Marriott Town Center for work recently and it was a nice stay, but it had some flaws. My room, while nice and clean, was dated and looked like it could use an update. I'd say the exterior of the building could use some TLC as well, especially the lighted Marriott sign, which is missing lights on the letter M. The bathroom in my room had a strange layout, with the door opening up against the shower and taking up most of the bathroom when open. The toilet made a loud and obnoxious whistling sound for about 30-60 seconds every time it was flushed. Despite a few flaws with the bathroom, everything worked as it should and was clean when I arrived. Before unpacking, I checked the mattress to make sure it was clean and free of bugs (it was spotless!), and I noticed that it was an older looking spring mattress. I thought I was in for a few rough nights and mornings, but it was surprisingly comfortable and I slept soundly every night. The best part of all is I didn't wake up with any back pain. There's nothing worse than an uncomfortable mattress when you're traveling, and Marriott passes with flying colors in that category! Amenities in the room include an iron and ironing board, combination safe for valuables, microwave and mini fridge, television, and coffee maker. I know those features aren't available at every hotel out there (although they should be), so I appreciate that this place has them. The TV was very old; it looked like one of the first "flat" screen TVs, but it was not very flat and wasn't HD so the picture quality was terrible. I'd say expect to watch stuff on your phone or computer because the TV in my room was not good at all. Hotel staff is also accommodating of requests - when I called to ask for an extra pillow, they brought it directly to my room. Some hotels I've stayed at in the past made me come to the front desk to pick up extra pillows, so it was nice that staff here went the extra mile and brought it to me. You can tell they really care about making sure your stay is enjoyable, from the way they greet you to the way they're always willing to answer questions and provide things you might need. During some of my down time in the evening, I took a quick trip to the pool on the 9th floor and I was pleasantly surprised by it. I didn't have the chance to take a dip, but the pool was large, the water was crystal clear and not dirty at all, and it felt like the perfect temperature. I also stopped by the workout facility, which is also on the 9th floor, and wasn't quite as impressed due to some aging equipment. Even though the equipment was older, just like everything else at the Charleston Marriott Town Center, it was spotless. The cleaning staff at this place deserves a commendation for making sure everything is clean. I'd say the worst part about this hotel is the pricing of extra things like parking. It's $15 per night for parking, which I think is high in a smaller city like Charleston, WV. They're right across from the mall and Coliseum, so I guess they can get away with it, but I wasn't very happy about it given the poor condition of their parking garage. It's $14 for breakfast when most hotels offer it for free. The prices at the restaurant and bar on the first floor were also outrageous, but I guess that's to be expected at a place like that. Just don't be shocked when they charge $12+ for one drink at the bar. If you're looking for a place to stay in Charleston, the Marriott Town Center is a reasonably nice place with wonderful staff that will make sure you're taken care of and have a clean place to stay. That said, be prepared for outdated rooms and a $15 charge for parking each night in a parking garage that is a little run down and dirty.

Great location if attending an event at the Colosseum! Hotel is older but has some updates. Beds are comfortable and room was clean. Unfortunately bar and restaurant had very limited hours but maybe be due to staff shortages.

Always loved the Charleston Marriott however in recent years the property (rooms) have seem to not been maintained. More than half the lamps in the room had bulbs that were burnt out, wallpaper was peeling and furnishings are definitely showing their original age. However this hotel maintains its convenience in downtown Charleston and is still an overall nice place to stay. Nice bar, amazing breakfast, great views and the most friendly staff.

What a terrible hotel operation. Come down at 10 am. To put my bags in the car and go to grab a coffee. Coffee station aka coffee bar closed at 10 am. Closes at 10 am. Opens at 6 pm. Coffee is needed Thru the day. Not just early morning or after 6 pm. Never seen such a poor operation. What’s the point in paying $175 a night and they tell me To Make my Coffee in my room. Marriott has started to use Covid as an excuse to not do anything For their customers. Poor brand. This should be a 1 star brand. On top of it. I realized there is a Starbucks across the street. But the front persons reply is. You can make coffee in the room. Maybe an alternative good suggestion vs telling me to go make My own coffee as a hotel is a rest stop. It’s not a place for us to go run around For ourselves.
