I took my ATV out and rode between Bush Highway and Bulldog Canyon Gate to the south. I loved parts of it and parts beat me up a little due to rocky terrain. The best part is taking the wash up to the Salt River.

They are still there camping because they can't afford a apartment. There is a lot of people there and it is constantly going, from camping to music concert to star watching. Biking, off road and 3 wheeling. Not bad for $6.00 for 3 month stay in the camp ground. Do I recommend yes.

Foot or horse traffic, absolutely. Just please be mindful of the signage as there are some sensitive areas in there where they don't want anyone.
It's fine for most SUV'S, something really massive or long might have trouble in some of the tighter corners and such. Remember you have to go to the National Park's office in Mesa and get the pass beforehand because the gates are padlocked and the combinations change monthly. The pass is free they just want you to sign that you understand the rules and all......
No target shooting allowed there... I haven't seen or heard any fights camping out there...
