They treat the homeless people like they are prisoners instead of people in need of help and resources and they don't serve nutritious and healthy meals.

This is the absolute worst place that I've ever been to! The staff don't have any compassion or respect. They don't do anything about people who are belligerent & allow things to happen that definitely shouldn't!! I wouldn't recommend CISS to anyone.

Front door between 9 am and 1 PM or 3 PM to 5 PM. Just tell staff you have donations and they'll even send someone to help you, usually one of the residents.
Meals are served at 6am, 11:30am and 6pm. Most of the time the meals are quite tasty. I have had to stay here on several occasions.
U have to be there by 6 p.m. inless u do a chore. Than u can stay out til 8p.m. after that u can't leave til 2 am. If u work n can't be back at 6 p.m. get a statement from ur boss verifing that u work pasted that time
Yes! Thank you Elizabeth!
Yes. Just like showers, you can do laundry. Bring quarters, they don't make change, also detergent is available from the dispenser on the wall in the laundry area
There is nowhere to park during the day. After around 4:30pm you can park in the parking lot, located in the back of the building, for the night, but you have to move your car somewhere else by 7am.
My son has a mental illness. He was just thrown out! 10:30 P.M. on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. Rick a manager or something said he didn't have time to explain. He was busy! Busy doing what? This place is a joke!
As long as you don't need help with daily basics, yes. This is a shelter and though they help with housing services they cannot take anyone who needs 24/7 or nursing care.
Its first come first serve. Usually you only have to wait a day or two to get into a bed.
It's a really good place to get on your feet, I stayed there for a year when I moved to Des Moines and that was 5 years ago! I'm doing good with their help!
Yes they will
Either CISS or Joppa will take the items. JOPPA will more than likely take the space heater, duffle and socks.
Not advisable, the staff with the power trip problems WILL make your life hell and claim that it's by the book. EVERYTHING is a problem and brand new each time you come in.
Yes you can use the CISS address and then come to the shelter and check at front desk for your mail. Mail doesn't come here until around 2pm so you can plan around that time
Jenny try then see best of luck
No electrical devices are allowed. I couldn't even bring my MI son an electric razor
It depends on if you have stayed at the Shelter before
They don't offer transportation
As a donation they will as you bringing in own blanket to use while staying there no they provide blankets
Got to come in & try to get one if no bed available theyll stick you in a chair for bed
As far as i know yes they are. I can confirm tomorrow
Dont go there they treat people as if they are used property and throw them away when they are done. They run the facility like a prison your better off trying to couch surff than going there they kicked me out in the middle of winter 20 below 0 because of my mental illness.
YES AND YES
Meek Nina no they do not, but some of the residents would like to have them.
You can go to the shelter. Its men and woman they have a clothing closet if you need clothes but you can go there if you need a place to stay.
No rooms for two althow the wemons and men's dorms are both on the first level
Public showers stre 9-11 a.m followed by open to the public lunch
U can go between 9-11 to take showers everyday.
No ID required. There will be paperwork to fill out like agreeing to the rules and sign up for housing assistance. Primary Healthcare Homeless Outreach can pay for a new ID as well
Yes u can have a job
They will help to they help me get mine
You don't go upstairs that's where the vets live. Go to the front desk between 9 am and 6 pm
No
No they are not a mental health place but they do not discriminate
I know they have special programs for vets. They do have free meals there. Otherwise I'm not totally sure, but I'm sure if you call they would know the rest.
Are you coming to live at shelter?
Im sure that they would be happy to have any help you want to give as long as you let them know what your intention is
They are 24-7....the men and women sleep different areas is all, u can be together besides sleep hrs
To add to Scott Schaff's response, for themselves
You will just need to speak to the staff n they will work with you!
They have Team Jesus bible study Saturday mornings. The also have bible study on monday, wednesday, and thursday nights that they provide transportation. Church is on Sunday mornings and provide transportation as well.
1030 unless u snitch and switch wit staff on lolo
Pam i don't work there, but my take on over flow is when the shelter is full and temperature is at the cold level of the shelters rules, they allow extra ppl into the main room to sleep,
No but 530 is more helpful.caution this shelter is often full. So much its difficult to stay there constant..we need a better shelter program for Iowa...Raymond
