There needs to be a local phone # to reach the local office for handicapped people who have to do almost every by pkone. You have to go through a 30 minute process to go to a person and then it tells you it cant take your call call back later.

You have to have an appointment to verify your id in office. However, when you call to try to make an appointment you don't get an answer. How are we supposed to get am appointment if no one will answer your calls?! They don't even have a wait time like most businesses. The automated message just says "we are sorry try again later" 😡

Never in my life have I been somewhere so frustrating.

If I could give zero stars I would. I have been trying to get an appointment since Dec 29 2021(today being Mar 7 2022) and have had no responses. I walked into this office for assistance with getting an appointment and they will not help me at all.

You'll have to call the number on the letter first. If they can't handle it on the phone, they'll schedule you an appointment at the IRS office. Then you'll need your ID, social security number and tax return for the year in question. They'll ask you a couple of questions that are easy (like those security questions if you forget your email password lol) and that's about it.
They are not doing in person appointments. Phone only
You'll probably have to mail them a letter telling them who you are & why you need them...your best bet would be too Google the i.r.s. address & phone number in Washington DC & send your letter/payments their, I had better luck doing it that way instead of trying to deal with the irs building in Johnson city.
Good luck
Generally yes but there are some things that can be done without one.
Call your local IRS office.
Make an appt with H&R Block and they should be able to help you get your info
No
No
Make an appointment for transcripts and you can get that information
Do you have legal custody? I'm not sure if you don't have some legal paperwork but you can make an appointment at the local irs office to talk to them about it
I have an appointment for 130. But last week, the office was closed due to lack of staffing on Monday
I would suggest investing in a fire proof safe at home or instead of waiting till you've passed give your family what you want them to have now. To the best of my knowledge any money gifts must be reported to IRS and they do tax money gifts. Good luck with whatever you decide and best of luck with your health.
