Sixt rent a car is more affordable than other rental car services available in the NYC area (ie; zipcar). Their selection of cars are pretty great and the staff are very friendly. I would suggest you pay close attention to the bill after you drop off your vehicle, especially if you dropped it off after hours. But that said, even when we had that hiccup, the customer service was responsive and able to rectify the mistake in a timely manner. I will continue to use their services whenever I need a car to take a weekend away from the city.

I booked the car rental in the internet 4th of October, and $156.04 it was charged successfully to my credit card. When I went to pick up the car the 5th of October my driver’s license was not accepted as ID, and we agreed I would postpone the rental until the 6th, and I would bring my passport. When I returned picked up the car the 6th of October Sixt insisted on having a different card, and the estimated amount for the rental was then up to $198.19. I then used my debit card, trusting this was a serious company. I returned the car as agreed, and a confirmation was received the 7th of October at 7.40 AM. The estimated amount for the rental was then according to the auto generated e-mail up to $210.27. A few hours later I received a notice that the car had not been returned. I documented the return with photos and copy of the return receipt the 7th of October. Sixt replied on Monday 10th they would forward the information to the office in Battery Park. I did not hear anything from them. After some more days a total of $1.287 was charged to my debit card. I contacted Sixt call center and followed up with numerous e-mails. They were friendly enough but time after time asked me if I could prove that I had returned the car. Sixt's own confirmation was not enough (I had to reshare it with them four times). My picture of the car back in the garage, including date, time and geo-tagging was not enough (sent this proof a couple of times as well). When I also enclosed a copy of my boarding pass confirming me leaving JFK the day after the rental they finally took action. Suspect poorly tuned bots were involved. It was like they did not really read my e-mails. After two weeks the money is now back in my account. I ended up paying $210.27 for one day of rental. And in addition, hours spent trying to get my money back. This felt more like a fraud attempt than a rental car experience. Suggest everyone considering renting a car to stay away from this office, and maybe Sixt in general. And if the response to this bad review is "please contact our customer service team, we are so keen to make things right" : I tried. 7 times if I count correctly. I am not impressed, and I share the experience many others have shared in their reviews: this is a scam.

This is sixt's only location in the city.
Im having terrible difficulties with this company. Too new of a startup with messy internet marketing tactics and unscrupulous business practices. They basically stole 300 dollars from me....use a dif car rental service. Much easier. Buyer beware
Go elsewhere, do not use this fraudulent company to rent a car. They are horrendous and should not be in business.
