Such an awesome place to stay. Everything is really old but very well done up. The rooms are extremely modern inside with great bathrooms and very nice waterfall showers. The bed was clean and comfortable. They have dog friendly rooms for a small upcharge. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The place is also a convenient couple minute drive to downtown. Highly recommend staying here.

I love the history of the building and they did a good job remodeling the building. It's a beautiful hotel. Friendly Staff as well. The reason I gave it 3 stars it because they put us under the stairs close to the check in/check out and our room is a noisy room. We heard all the talking in the hall from the check in area. It woke me up at 6am. Sound like they were in my room. My girlfriend wasn't happy with the bed. She said the bed wasn't conformable for her and what's up with two small pillows? No free breakfast and they only gave us two towels. For the price of the hotel, I expected more.

Arrived at 8:45p to no one in the reception. Had to search for someone, found the bistro bartender which tried his best to check us in. The Room, super small, not worth the price, no where to put luggage. Way too small. Bed, sheets not great quality and pillows were small. Spiral stairs and stairs going to 3rd floor (in the center of the building) are unsafe. Staff in bistro, unorganized or have never worked in a restaurant before, delivered food without napkins or silverware, ordered coffee, it came out after reminding staff, after breakfast sandwiches came out. Great idea, take a mental hospital and turn it into a hotel after it was abandoned, truly it has potential, fix the stairs, enlarge the rooms, hire all new staff!

Wonderful inn. Modern touches expertly woven in with older architecture. If you like old wooden interiors but the comforts of modern furnishings and bathrooms then this is the place to stay. Very clean as well. The Second Chance Bistro offered excellent dinners and breakfasts. The staff is very friendly and conversational and very helpful as well. Only a short walk from the hotel to the heart of downtown Staunton. Look forward to returning there in the spring.
