It is part of what most refer to as Fire Island. This section runs from Moriches Inlet on the eastern end to the new inlet opened up by Sandy on the west end, opposite Bellport.
Why aren’t all the toll booths open at Smithpoint beach - I just waited over 45 mins in line to get in.

Because if they have all the booths open, they have to pay another kid minimum wage to man that booth and you would get in the beach much too quick. Keeping you on the line, pissing you off and out of the parking lot means the cost of parking per minute that you paid is higher. A quicker, more convenient and efficient line would actually lead to less profit to Suffolk. But you just paid the same amount of money for using the parking lot for 45 fewer minutes which means the county is profiting more. You will have the same philosophic thoughts with the lines for food and drinks. You will still buy the same amount of food...Less service, more profit🤑. Sorry, it's simple economics!😆😆😁😁
why do some of these posts call the park “smith’s point” when, in fact, it’s “smith point park”?
aren’t there any moderators on this fact to fix the errors?

Can any one tell me what type of adapter I need to connect my own air hose to the compressors at Smiths point?

What will Dorian’s impact have on campers at Smith point Parks
Floating devices in the ocean are not reliable and therefore forbidden. This includes "water wings" worn on the upper arm. Rafts and boats far from the swimming area are not within the lifeguard's area of concern. The Coast Guard is then YOUR concern. Do NOT bring a boat, raft or jetski anywhere near the shore where the waves break. Those and Inflatables will get you killed when the waves capsize you. Surf somewhere far, far away.
To be honest i am not sure and i from experience i didn't remember seeing any area with pinic area aside from the bar area and a nice size deck, sorey i couldn't have been more of a help and hope this answers your question if not you can always give them a call to inquire? Best of wishes on any future endeavors.
A Resident Pass is not required. Here is additional information:
I ride with the Suffolk Bike Riders Association or solo to Smith Point on occasion. We don't pay for gas to ride there or park our bicycles. There IS a fee for cars; Military Veterans like myself are exempt.
I encourage anyone who goes there Memorial Day, Independence Day, or Labor Day weekends to leave their cars at home, if possible. There is one way in and one way out from this barrier island unless you have a boat, jet ski, swim across the bay, walk over the bridge from Mastic Beach (where you park, then walk), or cycle there. You may be stuck in a parking lot for a long time (unless you leave before the mass exodus) and then endure the slow parade up William Floyd going home. You pay with your time and aggravation.
For the average bike rider, put a bike rack on your vehicle, then ride anywhere from the Mastic-Shirley LIRR Station or from a closer point.
All of the answers are correct: official camping grounds at east end of the entrance road. But call the county first about requirements and permits.
And, Have Fun!!
