First and foremost, I appreciate all healthcare workers. Everyone was nice for the most part. My partner and I tried to be patient, however we were not seen after six hours. We got there at 730 PM and left at 130 AM. We asked how much time was left and they couldn’t tell us. There were people who waited 10-30 minutes after us and were seen. We asked why and they said they had priority. My partner had a growing infection so I guess that’s not considered priority. There was also a baby who came in right after us and they were never seen after five hours. I definitely didn’t have high expectations for our first time here but I would rather be thousands of dollars in debt from an urgent care visit than come here again.

I come here because it’s close to where I live and also other hospitals hassle me because of my insurance. From the outside it looks decent, but then you realize it’s your standard ihs hospital. Old rooms, old grouchy workers, and long waiting times….

Because covid made people lazy and the native hospitals are already really bad at doing simple data entry/simple work its 100x worse at these places now. Pimc and its employees are the worst ive ever seen in a Ihs facility.. been to em all over the country. On top on this they base ur service off the level of nativeness u are.

Expect to wait a long time just for them to tell you they can’t do anything about it. Save your time and actually get help and care from a different hospital because all the workers here are only there for a paycheck.

Where is the STAR Clinic located?
If you are experiencing oral pain or infection, please walk-in to our Dental Main building to receive emergency dental services. Our Clinic opens at 7:30AM, Monday - Friday. The first 25 patients to sign in will be seen that day. If slots have filled up for the day, you may be asked to return the following day to receive care. We apologize for any inconvenience. We try to provide as much care as possible for our emergency patients, however, there are certain services that cannot be provided through the dental emergency clinic. These include procedures such as large fillings or complicated wisdom tooth extractions.

If you do not have a primary care doctor, you can go to the Star clinic in the main hospital. They take patients that don't already have a doctor. You go there like on a walk-in basis and they make an appointment for you to be seen the same day. (If you don't go too late in the day). Concerning their hours and transportation, you can call the hospital's main number and ask them. They are very helpful. Be sure to let the phone ring a long time. 602-263-1200.
The ones where they put extra parking?
We think it's top notch (no bias).

Hello. You must be an eligible beneficiary of IHS services which means that you are either an enrolled member of a Federally Recognized Tribe, or can provide documentation that you are a descendant of a documented tribal member. Hello. We do not provide glasses through AHCCCS at PIMC. We provide the eye exams and glasses prescriptions. The patient must purchase the glasses from a outside provider. Note: the “Native American Health plan” AHCCCS does provide a yearly pair of glasses for patients under 21 years of age from certain vendors. One of those vendors is Sundance optical (just north of drumbeats) across the road from us.
For urgent or emergent care needs, you can walk in at any time. If you are in need of routine care, please call us at 602-263-1695 to schedule an appointment.
Hi Regina. You'll have to have your prescription reviewed/reordered here at PIMC by one of our providers. The only exception to this is if PIMC referred you to another healthcare facility for services and they subsequently provided the Rx.

The Emergency Department is open 24/7. Our STAR clinic, open from 8am-10pm every day except Sunday when it closes at 8:00pm, is a better option for this sort of health issue. We can't tell you how long it would take because it varies significantly from day to day depending on the patient load.

No, we do not offer bariatric surgery at PIMC. However, we do have a weight loss support group run by the PIMC Diabetic Education department. This class is every Thursday morning at 8:30am in the PIMC/NIH Medical Library Conference Room. Also, our primary care clinic providers are able to refer patients outside the IHS if they are appropriate candidates for weight loss surgery.
Yes, we do. However, individuals who are eligible for care are not required to carry insurance for services.

If the patient is an eligible beneficiary of Indian Health Service services, then yes. For more information, see https://www.ihs.gov/aboutihs/eligibility/.

Like all hospitals, PIMC is mandated to alert Child Protective Services (CPS) if it is suspected that there is abuse or neglect of a child. If a newborn’s mother has a history of substance abuse throughout the pregnancy, CPS will be notified. However, CPS will only take a child directly from the hospital if the mother of the baby has had an extensive background with CPS, or if CPS feels the baby is at risk. If you or a family member have a concern about the safety of a mom or baby, please let us know. We can help.
No. PIMC/IHS is a U.S. Federal Health program.

The Indian Health Service (IHS) is the health care system for federally recognized American Indian and Alaska Natives in the United States. It’s important to clarify that the IHS is not a health insurance provider and that the IHS can provide healthcare to only eligible Alaska Native and American Indians at its federal hospitals and clinics. The policies, standards, and procedures that determine if you can get care at an Indian Health program are in the Indian Health Manual Part 2, Chapter 1. Specific questions about receiving health care should be discussed with the tribe you belong to and the health facility which you are looking to receive care from. In short, if you're eligible for services you don't. If you're not eligible, you cannot be seen.
If you are an eligible beneficiary of the IHS, you can check in as a walk-in to see the diabetes educator at our Primary Care Medicine Clinic (PCMC). Walk-in hours are M-F 0800-1700.
Yes we do. If you have a Primary Care Provider (PCP), please call call to make an appointment. If you don't have a PCP at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center, you can visit our STAR Clinic as a walk-in appointment. Please note that STAR Clinic has limited appointments every day, so it is not guaranteed that you'll be seen the same day.
The lab is open 24/7. Regarding the fasting length, please consult with your provider.
If you contact the Pharmacy at 602-263-1506 and tell them your situation, they should be able to reissue the prescription without an additional doctors visit. The phone tree options will be '3' and then '1' to reach the main pharmacy.
Yes
Yes you do, you need a referral from your doctor.
They take all forms of insurance BUT I still think you need to provide your CIB(proof of Indian blood). If you go to the emergency room they have to see you, they can not turn you away it's the law. It's like that with all hospitals, the emergency room can not turn anyone away for almost any reason. They might check you to our ER and then ship you off to another ER. Good luck, I hope you feel better.
Typically they just pull the tooth but occasionally will try to save it with a root canal
It depends on the severity of the individuals injury or illness, and how many people are present in the ER queue.
Yup 2 different appointments is right.
Not my department, you would need to contact the Psychiatry Department directly for that information
I took my kids to star clinic and brought my tribal id, drivers license, and mine and kids birth certificates and they were given a chart number and can be seen there. Working on their enrollment but at least they can be seen
YEA they do take long but that's there way of handling patient's
I don't know
You need to show proof of Indian Heritage
