Wow! I live in a remote area of CO. Its always hard to find info for my property. I got representative "Kate" . With her expertise she was able to find some pretty hard to find info. Kudos to Kate ! A "5" all day long.

Questions & Answers

Who do I call to find out how deep I need to drill for a water well.

Phillip Shinbur | Oct 17, 2020

Hello Phillip, you may wish to reach out to a licensed contractor for well construction to request information or estimates on how deep to drill. We provide 4 sorted lists of licensed contractors that you can use (by city, company, name and license number). The lists indicate whether the contractor is licensed for well construction, pump installation, or both. https://drive.google.com/drive/u/2/folders/1-157LonFKtGaZYzYzjY6hLI9Xc1zqw0h Another tool available is our Well Permit Online Search. https://dwr.state.co.us/Tools/WellPermits You can specify a PLSS location and input the Section, Township, Range, PM of the property. This will give you an idea of wells in the vicinity and their current depths, in case that is helpful to you. Thanks for reaching out to us. Hello, household use only well permits are issued for ordinary household uses in one single family dwelling and do not allow for outside water or livestock watering. For questions on specific wells, please contact our Groundwater Information Phone Line: (303) 866-3587 (9am-4pm M-F) or submit an inquiry via our AskDWR Portal https://dwr.state.co.us/Portal/dwr/AskDWR

What department within the Division is responsible for enforcing compliance with water well abandonment rules?

The Board of Examiners (BOE) has general supervision and authority over the construction and abandonment of wells and the installation of pumping equipment with the ability to adopt and revise related rules. BOE has authority to examine for, deny, approve, revoke, suspend, and renew the licenses of applicants and disseminate information to pump installation contractors and well construction contractors in order to protect and preserve the groundwater resources of the state. For additional information, please see the following webpage: https://dwr.colorado.gov/public-information/boards-and-commissions If we can answer any other specific question you may have, feel free to submit that via our online AskDWR form. https://dwr.state.co.us/Portal/dwr/AskDWR
