My wife and I moved to SC in 2014 in order to live closer to family, and though we looked at several apartment communities, we kept coming back to Heron Lake due to its location, appearance, and positive vibe. With vaulted ceilings, up to date appliances, and balconies, we were happy to move to Heron Lake and we still enjoy our place. We use the pool and gym occasionally -- both are nice. Okay, so occasionally, there are rude neighbors. You can find those everywhere, even in gated communities. But management is proactive and will take care of such problems. Garbage is occasionally an issue, but we have pick-up for 5 of 7 days, all part of the package. We have enjoyed good rapport with maintenance as well as management -- they are efficient professionals, especially given that there are only five people for one community. If there is a maintenance issue, they will take care it -- even to the point of changing your light fixtures. As for insects, they are part of South Carolina, no matter where you live. Pest control has come around regularly and we take care of minor annoyances, like flies, ourselves. In the main, living at Heron Lake has been a pleasure and a refuge, potential negatives being far outweighed by the positives of being here. Addendum: We were moved to a renovated unit in 2021, an upgrade in terms of location with a nature view. However, we have noticed a slight downturn in the community at large. Despite the efforts of the maintenance crew (who are always helpful) there's a lot of thoughtless litter and dog waste. We have had some car break-ins and other mischief that has brought Richland County and other authorities here. More cameras on the premises would really help to remedy these issues. Moreover, there's been an uptick in pot smoke since COVID and it gets into the vents and causes allergic reactions to my family members. We understand that these are not smoke-free apartments, but perhaps some of the Heron Lake units should be roped off as smoke-free. Again, if there's not enough enforcement of the rules, it makes life less pleasant for those who don't litter around the community or pollute the air. This has been a good place to live, so let's keep it this way!

Love the people at the leasing office, and the amenities. Any issue I had was responded to quickly and efficiently. The community also is very clean and well kept

This has been by far the worst place we have lived. The apartment was not move in ready (cracked toilet, missing door handles, smelled like cigarettes). Does not look at all like the picture and is pretty run down. There’s construction constantly going on. And the walls are paper thin and you can constantly hear your neighbors. I would not recommend Heron Lake to anyone and can not wait for my lease to end.

not to my knowledge I think it's only straight pay as you go
Not that I know of.
Yes they do in some apartments. Floors are in the main living areas not bedrooms. You can call the office and see what they have.
