I was hesitant going up there to see the dogs from all the bad Google reviews. As I had thought they were all accurate, looks like more of a pet hoarding situation on someones property than a rescue. Which explains why they don't adopt out dogs. Sad when I new the exact dog I wanted to see but I needed to continue trying to call and make a appointment with some manager that was never there. All the dogs are outside in fenced in cages but they dont adopt them to home situations or even let you meet the dogs? Staff or owner was very unprofessional. Makes we question the credibility of the rescue and what goes on behind closed doors.

My boyfriend and I visited the shelter in hopes of finding a dog we could give a loving home. When we arrived the gate was shut so I called to find out why since online it said they were open but got no answer, seeing as we’d traveled 30 minutes just too visit this one shelter, we parked outside the gate and walked in. When we got passed a couple dogs a women came out and told us we couldn’t see any dogs without an appointment because they don’t have time to walk people around, and her manager wasn’t around to make an appointment but would be there on Tuesday Thursday and Saturday. You’d think they’d be happy to let you look and possibly adopt any of the animals kept here, considering how many there are. The dogs I saw did look healthy but there cages were not ready for the cold weather we’ve already started having and I saw no food or water. I believe the manger at this facility should really consider changing her approach or maybe just shouldn’t run the business. I’ve never been so let down by a shelter, it was extremely disappointing.

I loved the environment. As person very looking forward to again adding a cat to my family, I was in heaven being able to meet with so many cats and dogs. I was also able to see which cats are well socialized with other cats and dogs by watching them. I intend to visit again to see if I'm chosen by a special four-legged someone. I met so many potentials already. Thank you guys at Callaway for the tour and for all y'all do. Here's to a successful application!

About 4 years ago I became aware that this local no kill shelter had a 3 legged lab for adoption. I went out and toured the facility. A little leery of the fact there were so many dogs that had been there for long periods of time. I spent some time with this young female lab with an amputated front leg. I was told I couldn’t adopt because I myself (nurse, social worker and degree in animal husbandry) would not be approved to adopt this dog because I am an amputee. Now several years later I see this lab is still living at the shelter. The reason I was given was “how would I be able to meet my own special needs and one of this beautiful lab”. They wouldn’t even have known I was amputee if I hadn’t told them. What a disservice to this beautiful animal.

Questions & Answers

Was told the animals had parvo (didnt say if it was feline or canine) and tetnus...then said (on a monday)Also told me it was full and couldnt take the kitten I found in the street. Was rude and condescending like I was ruining her lunch...

Don't think badly of the workers, the management is so bad, and the lady who owns it is the absolutely the worst. The workers are over worked and underpaid, sometimes they don't get paid for weeks and months. The owner/manager takes advantage of the employees, because they genuinely care about the animals, so the owners have them between a rock and a hard place. I'm sure it was just all the stress they're under. The Department of Agriculture has all the info you need.

I have a neighbor with a dog that seems to be in distress. What should I do?

It is outside all the time and the barking sounds like it’s stressed or lonely. They never seem to do anything with the dog, it barks excessively. I wish I could share a video of the barking.b

We are a private, nonprofit, no-kill, licensed shelter funded solely by donations. We would like to help every stray but are limited by space and funding. With respect to cats, we currently house the maximum regulations permit.

I would like to fill out an application. Do I come to the shelter to pick it up?

Honestly you’re lucky if they contact you back at all. I filled out two applications, and then showed up three times. I messaged them on Facebook messenger and tried calling but nobody is ever there to answer phone calls. You’d have better luck going somewhere else
