Honestly horrible. Only reason I go to this place is to get the poor animals out of there. Other than that, the service there is horrible. I called about a dog and tried to put the dog on hold because I live in Topeka which is 30-40 minutes away. I couldn’t put the dog on hold and when I got there, the dog ended up being on hold. So during that 30 minute duration, someone put it on hold. Glad the dog is getting a new home but the service there is horrible. The lady at the front had an attitude. Saying “it happens”. No, it doesn’t happen and I didn’t drive there to get your attitude. You’re the last person an innocent animal needs to be around.

Unfortunately, I had to surrender one of my cats due to a change in his health and behavior. A decision that caused many tears, yet the staff here were very understanding. I know and trust that I left him in good hands. Thank you, LHS.

Got 6 community cats spayed and neutered, shots, and more and didn't get charged a dollar. Glad to hear our shelter isn't rounding up strays and euthanizing, but instead has found an effective "humane" solution. I appreciate all the staff who work so hard to take care of our furry friends. Think about responsibly adopting a pet.

We recently adopted our first, sweet furbaby here. I love the process of signing up for an adoption time because I feel like it gave us a more personal experience and the ability to visit with the kitties without being rushed through or run over by others wishing to adopt. The animals are meticulously cared for. The facility is immaculately clean and the employees are patient, kind and knowledgeable. Our little gal has been healthy, playful and loveable ever since we brought her home. Also, whoever does their social media is AHHMAYZING! ;) ;)

I think they have the small fee to cover the shots there given, and other vet issues.
Have the Vetrnarin help make a clear decsion
You're good to walk in! And you can leave the same day with your new furry friend
I have this problem a LOT. And I mean a lot. I usually have to reload several times, try using different links to get to the page, and sometimes just plain give up. I've pointed it out to them before but here we are lol.
Hi MacKenzie! Adoption fees for kittens are $100, and include spay/neuter surgery, microchip with lifetime registration, all up-to-date shelter-administered vaccines, a starter bag of Hill's Science Diet food, and pre-certification in Companion Protect pet health insurance.
I would try dr. Lewis in Lawrence his vaccination prices are very inexpensive
7 with an adult and 16 without
Yes, they are open 11:30am to 6pm every day of the week for adoptions
It’s an Open Admission shelter. This means they take in animals no matter their age, health, or temperament to help them find a home.
You can always drop them off and say you found them they are a stray
Hi, Donna! If the stray pet is found in Douglas County, KS, then you can bring it to the Lawrence Humane Society.
Yes! You can make an appointment with our Pet Resource Center at 785-371-0473.
I don't think so. They have a rescue place in lawrence if you call the police they should be able to give you the address and phone number.
You have better luck with setting up an appointment.
They are just east of haskell on 19th
Call and ask them
Apply via thier website
I have no idea. Call them.
It all depends on how the animal was acquired by the shelter. The categories are 1) Stray animals (found by animal control with some exceptions) 2) Animal surrenders (brought in by the original or adoption owners) 3) Animals born in the shelter by stray or surrendered pregnant mothers (puppies and kittens that are under care of the shelter and fostered until ready for adoption ranging from 8 to10 weeks old). Strays most likely won't have much of a record unless microchiped (even then being difficult for correctly gathering information depending if the owner was the current owner or given to someone through local ads like craigslist. Surrenders depend on how much information and veterinarian records the owner wants to provide. Puppies and kittens have full records provided by the shelter up to their date of adoption. Hope this helps🐶
There's a link to Bernard's story on the home page. This link takes you directly to the story! http://lawrencehumane.org/miracle-kitten-survives-maggot-infestation-and-finds-his-happy-ending/
I would assume that's what happened as well. The article in the paper said they closed early because they only had 12 cats left.
I found four kittens in a brush pile on my property. They charged me $120 to bring them in. I'd expect to be charged around $30 for your kitten.
You can park down at the new building
Don't kill the cat take it back and explain just as you did here
They can help at humane society. We got our cat fixed there. Reasonable rates.
I don't know if they do that but usually $200 with cremation
I had that happen several years ago. Just go up to the main office, and you may have to have some sort of proof that it is your dog. But if you go to main office, or call them, they will tell you what to do.
Hi Jim and Vicki -- yes, we do offer low-cost spay and neuter services on a very limited basis. For information, contact our Pet Resource Center at 785-371-0473!
The animals at LHS dont have a time limit. :) They also transfer IN from other shelters who might need help, but rarely have to transfer OUT because they have such high adoption rates and so many fosters and volunteers to help.
I would just stay out of the forest especially when it's cold.
Yes ! Enjoy your new furry family member and who knows you may walk out with 2 😍
Please call the Lawrence Humane Society. They will be able to help you and your friend!
Looks like she's scare on you, probably her old owner was treating her badly. Be patient, give her confidence and play with her, when she does tricks give treats straight from your hand to her snout. We have the same situation already like you with our cat Rusty and now he is confident and happy
Talk to tia. Its not a no kill but they do have a high sucess rate
Call up n ask they might have one
You can always go to the Leavenworth country humane society. They did ours free. It might cost some if your in Douglas county. Just give LcHC a call. Hope that helps.
They do have events quite often throughout the year where adoption fees are waived. I got my latest dog Duke and it was free to adopt him cause they were waiving adoption fees at that time to help get more animals adopted to good homes.
With an adult . Because you have to be 16 to volunteer by yourself. But it's a great bonding experience.
Hi Beverly -- yes, we are always in need of new and gently-used linens, like towels, sheets, and blankets!
