Positive: Classy old hotel with lots of charm and history. Comfortable bed. Negative: Room was very small but that was expected. Elevator is tiny.

The idea of staying in this hotel is much better than actually staying here. It was basically a motel set inside a historically beautiful historic hotel. The beds were lumpy, but not as lumpy as the pillows. The bathtub drain was clogged, so I showered in ankle deep water. The staff presence was as if they were ghosts that you may or may not see. From seeing into other guest rooms, none of the rooms are the same layout or furniture, so it’s likely that each guest’s experience is different. We booked a king bed with a crib and got a double room with a cot. If you stay on the exterior of the building, it will be loud, especially the east side. If you want to be downtown, be prepared to sacrifice everything for the location, which was great! Once again, loved the idea of this hotel, just wouldn’t stay here again. Kinda sad, as I’m sure it would cost a fortune to upgrade this to even 2005 standards. So much potential in this place, if all the bells and whistles were open, no doubt it’d be a gem.

Old historic hotel. Lovely woodwork, stained glass lobby. Could be a real gem with some work. Restaurant is closed when we were there.

I was looking forward to staying at this hotel it was cute looking, in a great location, and pet friendly! When I booked online it said there were "no pet fees" which is a big reason why I picked it. When I checked in they charged me $25 extra for my dog because it supposedly says at the very bottom of their website "additional charges may apply". I looked again to see if I missed it initially but I couldn't find it. Why not just put the charge up front on the site instead of being cryptic about it? I won't be staying here again.

Yes they take dogs. But you have to go across the road to the park to take them out.
The Plains hotel was built by the Cheyenne Securities Company in 1911. It was designed by William Duboise and the idea for the hotel is credited to Thomas Heaney who was president of the Industrial club which later became the Chamber of Commerce.
Try the restaurant. They had a salad bar special that featured historical foods that was great.
