I was trying to verify a Community Care referral and when I tried to find a number to call, this is what came up. The person who answered sounded like she was using a tin can and string with an echo so she was either using a speaker phone or faulty headset. Either way, it made communication difficult and when I relayed my question, her response was basically "Why are you calling here?" and "This is CHAMPVA." Number one, I don't know what CHAMPVA is and just saying it over and over again is not helpful; number two, this was the number that came up when I searched for Community Care and the title of the office says "VHA Office of Community Care" which I would think would lead most people to believe that if they're looking for a number for Community Care, this would be a good place to start. Obviously I was wrong and when she asked if I wanted to be transferred I said yes thinking that she would transfer me to the Community Care line. Well, I guess today's the day that I'm stuck on wrong and I end up back to the main Rocky Mountain line where I started and had since been told that I needed to reach out to Community Care. I'm not sure if the "recording for quality assurance" continues to record after a transfer has been made, but if it does, I apologize ahead of time for the string of expletives that I may have uttered before I hung up. If I'm way off base here, let me know and I'll come back and refresh this, but in addition to being super annoyed trying to find ANY number from the VA that is useable, the experience calling this place set my teeth on edge.

From what I understand It is one VHA center serving the entire country, and they are severely understaffed. Write or call your Congress Rep. And demand that they raise that department's budget so more offices and employees can opened/hired. Otherwise the wait time will continue.
Yes and to remain ChampVA eligible she must have Medicare part A and B upon her 65th birthday.
Call them for a physical copy to be mailed to you

Those guys don't want to ask for the money to hire more people. They also hire EVERYONE who applies without assessing their skills. The training is terrible, so many people have to put callers on hold to ask someone for answers. Information is also so disorganized in their systems that it can take 20 minutes to find it. Doctors don't get reimbursed for 8 months, so they have their office call in to check on their claims status. Many claims that are sent via mail or fax (or both) get "lost." Some people also have long conversations with callers on unrelated topics, such as political elections, vacation plans, etc. All of this causes the HOUR long wait times.
