What an absolute joke. My daughter found a stray in the middle of the road, and tried to take him to animal control. They told her they can't take it because it is not their jurisdiction. The dog was found on Sego Lily Dr. They called dispatch from some other animal control, and she has just been waiting in the parking lot of Sandy animal control. She is late for work, and cannot keep the dog. Not sure why they can't take it, and deal with jurisdiction on their end. I guess its better to leave the dog in the road to potentially get hit than try to be a good samaritan.

I went to donate dog food. They are very warm hearted and welcoming.

I have had great success with the officers at Sandy Animal Control. They are professional, polite and quick to respond to calls.

Sandy Animal Services accepts owner per surrender during business hours. There is a $50 turnover fee and you must provide proof of Sandy City residency, proof of pet ownership, i.e. veterinary records, and a government issued form of identification. Our services are limited to residents of Sandy City. If you reside in another city, township, etc… you must work with your city services and their shelter. If your city does not have a local municipal shelter it will likely be under contract with the county shelter. Additional information and resources are listed on our webpage under “pet surrender.”
Yes, we offer adoptions of all variety of animal that come into our shelter. Please contact the shelter directly at (801)352-4450 to learn about what animals are currently available and to schedule a visit. Due to current COVID-19 precautions, we offer adoption by appointment only.
I have a dog.You can put it on KSL
Call 801-799-3000 and an officer will be sent to address the issue. Dogs must be under restraint when off their owners property. If an apartment, condominium complex, neighborhood has an off leash park or designated area, that area must be fenced in. Once the dogs leave the designated area must be placed under restraint again. They may not approach your property, or enter your garage off leash.
Because of our location on 700 west and its lack of a side walk on the busy industrial street, we do not offer walking beyond our property. We do have a nice fenced yard where individuals can come and play with the dogs. It is always best to contact the shelter that day to ensure opportunity and availability.
We are a humane animal shelter operated by Sandy City. Since 2015 we have met the "No-Kill" standard of maintaining a 90% or better save rate for the animals that come into our care and custody. Volunteer opportunities are limited and often full. Because of the inherent risks associated with handling or coming into close contact with unknown stray animals, our risk management prevents a broad volunteer program. Contact the shelter directly to see if there are current volunteer openings. (801)352-4450 Regarding the other comment to this thread, Adoptions are done on a first come first serve basis. Often information shared widely on social media is not current. We always recommend contacting the shelter directly for up to date information. Even then, there will be animals that generate wide interest and of the multiple interest parties, only one home will be able to adopt the animal. We never mean to offend, but in such situations there will always be disappointment.
Currently our local ordinances do not prohibit the burial of your pet on your property. We would encourage a grave dug deep enough so that scavengers like raccoon, coyote, etc... won't try to dig in the area and it won't become a health concern.
