I am a former employee and was just let go for defending a client who was being physically assaulted by another client. Never was told that staff couldn’t protect a client in that way. I was never corrected just fired due to VOA being afraid of being sued. The men’s shelter is dirty, not kept to health standards in my opinion and I complained many, many times about it. Clients shower in filthy showers, sleep in non ventilated dorms and eat old food that is donated. I myself am a former homeless and in recovery along with a former client of the men’s detox center but it’sa locked facility and I feel I was wronged. Take my review as you wish but if you’ve been a client in the last year then you know what I’m saying is true! They get funding and our homeless/people in addiction deserve the best. I’m not going to name names because I feel this review says enough. With mental illness and the change that has happened in this country the last couple years the fact that staff can’t defend a innocent client from being beaten while you wait for law enforcement to arrive who sometimes takes an hour to do so and we’re supposed to just stand and watch is totally not acceptable when the client is in our care. Just be prepared while your sick to have to defend yourself while in mens detox. I hope this review changes things for the better. Hopefully someone is paying attention!

Your non profit closes at regular business hours but I'm concerned how non profit vehicles run at 2 in the morning volunteers must be putting in work lol I hope government funding or any subsidiaries know they are wasting for a good cause

If you live in Utah, i would contact Workforce Service Center and check about what programs are available. Also Community Action Program and the LDS church Bisop help program. In addition ask for assistance from the County Housing program getting signwd up for disabled housiing , which wiuld be a far easier rent to pay
Apply online, there's always volunteer opportunities!
All donations made directly to Volunnters of America Utah go directly to the clients . I know this as I was once part of the receiving and distribution process. It was one of the things I valued about them . The motto was " get it right out to them ".
Our donation center is located at our Youth Resource Center 888 South 400 West. The entrance is located on the South side of the building.
