The new appointment system is amazing. My appointment was for 9:30. I got there around 9:15 and I was out by 9:40. Make sure you bring all your documentation with you, and you’ll be done before you know it. Thank you so much!
Rhonda
They wouldn't answer so I kept spamming calls to them for over 30 minutes, no answer. I'll keep doing it to see how long their lines can be busy till they allow a single call through.

You do not need an appointment to pick up a form. You can also download and print the form at https://iowadot.seamlessdocs.com/f/ApplPersonswithDisabilitiesParkingPermit. Be sure to click the circular print button rather than using the browser's print button.
All appointments are scheduled and rescheduled online
You can schedule an appointment at https://iowadot.gov/service-selector.
It depends. If you are a US citizen, yes. If not you have to go in person
Until May 2023 (when the REAL ID (gold star) goes into effect), a state-issued ID will work as identification when you fly. After May 2023, your ID will need a gold star in order to use it as identification to fly. Here is a tool that will help you create a checklist of what you need if you decide you would like to get the gold star added to your ID: https://iowadot.gov/mvd/realid/success.aspx
If you are getting a gold star added to your driver's license and the name you are using on your driver's license matches your passport or certified birth certificate, you do not need to provide any additional name information. If it does not match, then you would need to provide a certified marriage certificate or court document to show the name change.
You can drop off your CDL medical card without an appointment. Please include your phone number so we can call you if we have questions.
Yes it is a good idea to keep your address up to date on your driver's license. I do know that there are some instances that you can actually just do everything online as well and not even have to go into a driver's license location. Currently it all known locations in Iowa you do need an appointment to see a desk.
The first thing to do is make an appointment at https://iowadot.gov/mvd/driverslicense/service-selector. For more information on documents you'll need for the REAL ID Gold Star, go to https://iowadot.gov/mvd/realid/success.aspx
On Google it says 8:30 to 5. Closed Sundays and Mondays
Yes, you can surrender the license at any of our licensing stations.
I'm sorry, but by federal regulation, we need the actual card.
No unless you are taking a driving test. But I think you have to go there in person to schedule the driving test
There are not background checks, but you do need to produce proof of identity and other documents. This might help- https://iowadot.gov/mvd/driverslicense/renew
Up to 3 weeks but I got mine in about a week
Thank you very much, my wife she went to the court house in eldora to change her license but they never ask her about documents or anything like that. So what difference between you guys and them? Iam at work here in ames and i live in jewell i dont have any document so what i have to do !!
Any covered car.
If you are a foreigner you need to bring your passport and proof that you are permanently in Iowa, e.g. pay stub and utilities bill's.
Yes just can't drive it
Best of luck. This place has the worst customer service in the world. I've never successfully accomplished anything without multiple physical trips into the office.
