7/31/2022 The 2 star is for the pool and our check-in clerk/And the GM on the phone…even though the pool was a tad bit cloudy. The attendant that checked us in was great… then after we entered the room it smelled of mold, the room needed deep cleaning and I am sure the comforters on the beds were not cleaned from the prior guests. At check In the lady told us that towels were being waited on and they would send the rest up in a bit. Waited patiently for an hour as we wanted to take showers from the beach and go shopping/ eat dinner. After an hour hubby rang the office ( shift had changed and so did the customer service standard) and “Francesca”proceeded to rudely say whomever told you they would bring towels are wrong and if he wanted them that he would have to come get them himself( keep in mind the room was not stocked with towels at check-in)that she had a crowded lobby. Husband went down and walked to the office where the lady was literally waiting on one new guest and no other guests in site. Got the towels and went on back. Shower curtain had mold on the big part of the bottom of the curtain took off curtain. The place was updated inside and modern I will say but I’d rather them spend money on attentive cleaners and fix the mold problem.at check out the lady that checked us in was back, he told her all the issues and she was very apologetic and also called the GM on the spot. They took off some of the bill which was the right move for the experience we had.

Fully aware of the saying "you get what you pay for". We traveled with a little dog and it was the most affordable option for us to stay during the holidays. The room hasn't seen a deep cleaning in a while, was smelly, the air-conditioning was loud and our room hasn't been cleaned for the 4 nights we stayed. With that being said, the receptionist Shelley is the best. Shelley, if you are reading this, quit this dump and go work somewhere else. I'm only giving 5 starts to service to Shelley only. And the pool was decent. Everything else sucked.

Room smelled and was dirty. I washed the counter tops and desk off myself and was appalled at the grime. The headboard was equally disgusting. It looked as if no attempt was made to clean grime off the door. There were no towels in the room as well as peeling paint on the ceiling and the window coverings were dirty. We have not been able obtain a refund from "corporate " either. I cannot fault the staff, they can only manage what they are provided with. Horrible horrible experience. Thankfully we were able to find a more suitable place to stay. Red Roof Corp executives should have to stay at their own facilities, that might improve the conditions they expect travellers to put up with.

The good: Like most of Hilton Head, the grounds are very pretty. The pool area is clean, spacious, and seems recently renovated. The hotel itself is within a very short drive of lots of interesting destinations like the public beach. The king deluxe room had a decent work station, a microwave and mini fridge for only $30+ per night. Pets stay free! The bad: The room was tidy but a little sticky and damp. We left the door open for ten minutes or so to refresh the air and that worked really well. The room could use a few updates but overall okay for a night or two. Our big complaint was that, when we arrived late in the night (3am) after a long drive, the desk attendant had “shut down” for the night and refused to check us in. I explained we had the room for two nights, and she confirmed the room we booked was empty, yet still she refused to check us in. We pleaded for her to try and think of an exception, but she somewhat rudely sent us away. Since we had our dog with us, we ended up having to sleep in our car for the night. It was cold, and cramped, and I had a conference presentation at 10am. The next morning, a (different) desk attendant told us there was no reason that we should have been turned away, and quickly got us into our room without issue. Oof. Overall, the experience at red roof was okay. It’s a no frills crash spot in a great location. Great option for pet owners. But I’m still pretty annoyed they put us into an uncomfortable situation, unnecessarily.
