Unless you have a spectacular home and can be with the pet regularly, regardless of plans to ensure this, don't bother. Doesn't matter that you've had pets previously and cared for them exceptionally. They won't even let you see if the pet is a good fit for you. Ironically if they load the animals in their van go to an adoption fair a person can get a close up view and interact. What a double standard. Definitely won't be going back there

Nice facility and friendly staff but very strict on adoptions and a bit pricey. 😀

It depends on the dog
Call them
I found them to be professional and caring. Their first goal is the health and safety of the animal.
We do have traps for rent with a deposit of $80.00 if this is a feral cat. We expect writing a check and then you could keep the trap for 2 weeks. Our program, Spay Today provides reduced-cost spay/neuter and vaccines that you could utilize. Clinics are very backed up right now. We have been referring people to Anicira in Harrisonburg VA. They are the most cost effective and could get a cat in quickly. It is a drive but very worth it.
We live in Virginia and have adopted 2 dogs from Briggs, who's located in West Virginia.
I think you can put all your cats in Briggs I'm not totally sure, make sure to ask them to be put up for adoption. Also Briggs takes good care of their animals.
Do you still have the fur baby?
Call animal control.
Call them to make an appointment to take them over there they maybe able to help you
The adoption fee covers a lot. Dog is spayed/nuetered, shots, wormed, maybe micro chip, and possibly more. Not that it would, but adding a member to your family, if an arm or leg is a big concern then why adopt? Adopting from a shelter like Briggs, you can't go wrong. Adopting from a backyard breeder or puppy mill, could cost you more than arm and a leg.
Yes! This is a wonderful shelter. We adopted a kitten this past summer and they were very thorough in making sure we were prepared. The adoption coordinator also followed up with us several times to make sure things were going well.
Go inside and ask for an application.
I think most of their positions are volunteer. But give them a call.
There is an office at Briggs called Spay Today who can help you get lower cost spay/neuter and shots at vets near you.
Call and ask. I recommend the Jefferson County AWS.
You have to call, go there, and take "animal counseling" before you can take any animal out the door. Better to go to Jefferson County AWS.
The employees at Briggs work very hard to find just the right placements for the cats and dogs here. This is to help ensure that people aren't making snap decisions and taking home a cat or a dog who isn't a good fit for their family. Generally negative comments are from people who didn't have the right environment for a particular animal, such as a fence for a dog with a history of bolting when scared. Many times a potential adopter doesn't have a history of vet care for their other animals, and that's not an environment that we want to put an animal in.
They do, but as Michael said they are generally at full capacity. If you call them, they are very helpful and informative and will gladly answer your questions. They are very busy on the weekends with people coming in to see the dogs and cats but if need be they will call you back within a day to give you the information you need. Wishing you the best with everything ❤
Last time i was there they had all size dogs for adoption.
Yes it is
We are able to take in cats and kittens if we have room. Call and check before you bring them, because depending on the time of year, there are times when we, and the other shelters in the area (including AWS) are completely full, such as in kitten season.
Yes.
If you live within an hour and a half radius you can adopt from here. It doesn't matter what state you are from. The hour and a half is because Briggs delivers the animals to their new homes. You are not required to "have counseling." Because Briggs is an adoption center, potential adopters fill out an application, and the people who go over the applications are called "adoption counselors." They work very hard to find the best match both for the animals and the owners.
