negative reviews here are out-dated... or lunatics. idk why i always feel the need to chime in, but i guess i know that if a doctor, for example, sees 15 patients one day, and 1 of them doesn't like his face, that'll be the one who runs to Google Reviews... barf. I had a thorough MRI of my entire spine and brain that went about as smooth as i can imagine. Was told "3 hours" and got all nervous, but it was more like chunks of 30 to 45 minutes with breaks here and there, totaling around 2.5 hours. MRIs are really pretty painless nowadays. I had one a few years ago that i remember thinking was way easier than all the old folks were telling me it'd be, and this more recent MRI was even EASIER. There's tons of measures in place to keep you comfortable, including ear plugs, headrests, leg pillows, headphones with music (which is really just background noise, there's no way to NOT hear the MRI), constant updates from the radiologist ("this one's 6 minutes", "this one's 20 and then you get a break, hang in there", etc.) and plenty of cold air blowing through the machines. As someone who is typically very easily discomforted by the slightest increase in heat, i felt fine the entire time. The overheating that wackjob is complaining about is likely the well-documented heating effect of MRIs on your skin in general, and he was likely told that at the time, unless of course he just silently festered so he could complain later... When my stomach and arms started heating up i asked the radiologist about it, and he said something to the tune of "try putting your arms at your sides, when you cross your arms you create a circuit for the waves we're hitting you with to linger inside you and heat up your skin" and that worked INSTANTLY. I had been lying with my fingers linked across my belly not realizing what that was doing. p.s. On 7/1/2020 they joined Strong & Highland's billing system, which means they accept Financial Assistance. All good things.

From the ladies at the front desk to the ladies in imaging room, they were all polite, professional and courteous. The place was extremely clean and all Covid safety steps are being practiced.

It has been reported in TV show that taking 100 mg of Losartan has been associated with cancer? Do you know something about this?

University Medical Imaging, PC is an imaging center. We have no knowledge of BP drugs, uses or side effects as we do not use or perscribe them. I would contact your cardiologist to discuss.

We have a wide bore scanner. 70cm in diameter. Not technically a true open MRI. Both of our Siemens Skyra scanners are wide bore scanners. Images are on the UMI website.

I have an MRI schedule for my head. I have sciatica. Will I be able to have pillows for my head and shoulders? Also, how long will the MRI take? Should I ask my doctor for a pill to relax me?

Nancy- For a Head MRI your head is placed into a head imaging coil. It will not accommodate a traditional pillow. We do need you to position you fairly flat on the imaging table for this exam. Feel free to call our office (585) 341-9100 to speak to one of the MRI technologists for more details.

Do these machines have a periscope to see outside of the machine or a music feed?

Rebecca Schwarz | Oct 5, 2019
University Medical Imaging, PC | Oct 5, 2019

If you are inquiring about MRI scanners, No they do not have a periscope to see outside the scanner. For head MRI exams there is a prism glass on the head imaging coil to see outside. For some, but not all exams music can be provided. For the remainder, earplugs would be worn because of the noise the scanner makes. Some exams you would go in head first, other exams you would go in feet first. If you would like to know more, please call our office (585) 341-9100 and ask to speak to a Care Coordinator or MRI Technologist. They would be happy to assist you.

I am a big person and weigh 340 lbs. Will I be able to fit in that MRI donut hole?

Sarah Griffin | Oct 5, 2019
University Medical Imaging, PC | Oct 5, 2019

We have two Siemens Skyra MRI scanners with a 70cm diameter and a 550lb weight limit. The answer is most likely YES you will fit on those scanners. But please keep in mind height plays a similar role as weight with regards to fitting. In general a 5 foot tall 340lb person has a difference circumference than a 6 foot tall 340lb person.
