I was there for their annual book festival. They had such a wide and great collection of books that readers would love to pick from. They also offer interesting classes throughout the year. My wife bought a few kindergarten books for my son and they absolutely love to read it everyday at home. We also took our son here for reading sessions a few times a week.

The best library for family history and genealogy research.

Julie and I thoroughly enjoyed a visit. An AMAZING building and stellar collection. We saw an exhibit there from the Newberry's Pullman railroad collection focusing on race and racism. Sobering.

Nice story about the Pullman maids. However when we tried to look further into the library we were told we couldn't. What's the point?

You can actually start the library card sign-up process online here: https://requests.newberry.org/. Once you've filled out the online form, visit us in person during reading room hours, and you'll receive a physical card from our welcome center on the first floor. Happy researching!
Printing from WiFi is not currently possible, but reader cards are free. Just visit our first-floor welcome center.
We do have wifi, which you're welcome to use in our lounge on the first floor or in the reading rooms on the upper floors.

The book fair is always the last weekend of July--this year it's Thursday, July 26 through Sunday, the 29th. You can donate books until July 4 by dropping them off just inside our north entrance (through the parking lot off Oak St.). Please let us know if you have any other questions! Best, Alex (Director of Communications for the Newberry)
Yes. Call the Newbwrry Library for additional information.
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner! If you still have books to donate to the book fair, we’ll resume accepting donations for next year’s sale after Labor Day.
Historically, there haven’t been many study spaces in the Newberry (our reading rooms are open only to visitors who are using the collection for research). However, very soon we’ll be opening a new lounge as part of our first floor renovation that (we hope) will be a decent spot for reading and studying.
You need to contact the library.

No, the library is currently closed through March 31. This fact is stated in several places on the main page of our website (www.newberry.org). We look forward to be able to welcome you back in coming months.

The parking lot behind the library is available only to staff, unfortunately. But we do offer discounted parking at a nearby garage (in addition to the metered street parking available throughout the neighborhood). You can find more information about reaching the Newberry and parking nearby here: https://www.newberry.org/directions
Monday is closed. But when you go, ask to the main desk, you make your registration and they tell you where to go. They are very nice and helpful.
