I first came here 5 years ago and fell in love right when i arrived. There’s no need to find another place to go. Sand spur beach may not be where most tell you to go but if you’re looking for crystal clear water, white sand beach, amazing snorkeling, and the most beautiful place to be then look no further than here. Even having a rental home on grassy key we tend to spend most of our days on the beach here. It’s like being on your own island. When the tide goes out and the sandbars come up, there’s amazing tidal pools to wade through as you walk right up to the most beautiful ocean you’ll see. Side note- Kathy who works for the state park when you enter is the nicest, most informative woman there is!

This is an awesome spot to pull over and take a nice walk and stretch while driving to key west.

This was the first park we stopped at on the way to Key West. I really like this place. They have plenty of places to swim, fish, camp (12 month prior reservation), and picnic. There's a gift store with food and drinks, as well as gifts. Restrooms and showers are clean and easy to get to. The people that work here are friendly and helpful. We will definitely visit this place again the next time we go to the Keys

Nice beach and fantastic water to snorkel or just swim!

As of the 1st, only the Gulf loop was opened and not all of those spots had power restored yet. They are working hard getting that loop all back and were rebuilding the cabins while we were there from the 1st-6th. The Atlantic loop isn't anticipated to be open until 2019 sometime.
There are plenty of beautiful beaches down in the keys. But, this one is so natural and stunning. Bahia Honda is also great for snorkeling. Why not try a few places?
You should check with the park service for accurate and up-to-date information. They will be your best chance of getting an accurate answer
To be honest and clear yes we do allow trailers at any park you can find any parking space you like park as many places as you like and oh please stay away from people because they'll steal your spot
They take reservations. Books out 11 months in advance. That's for camping. Always open for day use though. Does have a fee.
Yes
Once in a while we see manatees in our canal.
They have both I think but most are with elec and water. Our site has both.
The park Rangers kindly ask you to leave about 20 mins after sunset.
Partially open, 100 yards or so of shallow area with sea grass on most of the bottom. No effort is being made to open the ocean side. Better beaches without the fees and rules elsewhere.
If I did not check if there were dogs but it is an open place I do not think it is prohibited
You have to go to the state park website for this info. Most sites are booked months in advance.
Yes there's hot showers and the bathrooms are always clean
Cheap
There is a boat that goes to Lou Key for snorkeling. Some if the best snorkeling in North America!
Depends on what kind of site you get electric only cheaper than electric and water and depending on how big your RV is is whether you can fit in there or not also you need a reservation if you don't have a reservation you'll just be a day visitor
I would probably give them a call about the tent sites being open.
I think you can still, yes, however, most of the tent area is closed off to two hurricane Irma destruction.
Keep it in a different bottle or cup and you should be fine, saw quite a few people "refilling" their water bottles
They have a camping area even though the park it's small but I was told when I drove in with my camper van (pleasure way) that all the camping spots were reserved for at least a year, and speaking about a hammock I don't know if you're going to find where to hang it, maybe under the old bridge? But I don't know if they will let you grill there. And of course they throw everybody out as the sun sets cause they're closed at night except for campers. I would find a different spot if I was you I'll try finding an area out the back roads, you'll never know
It’s quiet and respectful for the most part. Just don’t go during any party weekends such as spring break or Thanksgiving
You can make reservations to camp on the state’s website
Quiet hours begin at 11pm. If you're planning to bring a generator, just don't as a courtesy for the other campers. I advice to get a Jackery charger with a solar panel instead.
Its open with 1 year waiting list. About $65
Yes there are cabins but they’re generally already reserved
Only a few small shells. I am pretty good at finding sharks teeth but did not see any
Yes, right off of the bridge pylons. Cast into the swift currents under the bridge.
$120 May 1 to October 21 and then $160. October 22nd to April 30.
$ 8 per vehicle
You can check the https://www.reserveamerica.com/explore/bahia-honda-state-park/FL/281005/overview for availability and prices of the cabin s
You should go online a see. But I doubt it at least not till next spring
the camp sites are a flat rate... 34 & change for a night (plus tax). There are no RV's to rent like at Sunshine key. However there are cabins (not sure of the price) but they are very hard to get.
We were there last week and they were open.
Don't ask but checkout was 8am and there were no people in management just the doorman and a cleaner
didn't see anything to rent there just for swimming and fishing.
Yes, occasionally during evening and early morning they can be seen.
There's two ways you can go online or you can call their local number what's the Florida State Park registrar
Yes, you can fish there. This is included in the pay per visit. We were fishing under the bridge. We saw the manatee.
Might be
You can stay till they close the state park, you pay to get in.
Yes ,of course
People were drinking they had cups on the beach campgrounds you can do what you want
The best time to go is now the weather is perfect as far as a cabin idk i have a tent sorry didn't look inside any
Only camping area open is Buttonwood. A mix of rvs and tents. Sand Spur still closed.
Nose
a
Paddle Boards and Kayaks only. There is endangered sea life in the area.
Yes.
Bahía Honda is a park where there is a beach, the entrance to the park is paid according to the number of people in the car, I don't know what are you talking about? How does it cost to spend a month? Are you referring to Islas Moradas?
Sandy beach is open but not a big area. Just small portion. Portable bathroom with air conditioner. Changing room and showering provide to you. We had a great time there
I dont see why not...
WiFi only available at the concession area. Does not work at campground sites.
Cabins are available for reservations.
They do. There are some next to picnic tables. You can check some of my photos and will se the type/size of grill.
Yes, there is an entrance fee based on number of people in vehicle.
No, a few reasons, not much space, very shallow, swimmers in the area. Now if the State would get off their duff and open the entire area... things would change.
There is one more beach, it's called Loggerhead, but see the following statement from the park: Bahia Honda State Park has REOPENED for day-use at Calusa Beach, camping at Buttonwood and Bayside and cabins. At this time Sandspur and Loggerhead beach remain closed.
Dusk 2 Dawn unless you have a campsite there. Have Fun
Yes, pets are allowed in the campground as long as they are kept on a leash. They are not allowed on the beach though. Bahia Honda - Pets Due to the small amount of land area at Bahia Honda, only limited accessibility is available for pets. Pets are not allowed in cabins, bathhouses, pavilions, the concession building, on beaches or in the water. In the limited areas where pets are permitted, they must be kept on a six-foot, hand-held leash and be well-behaved at all times. Service animals are welcome in all areas of the park.
I think camping is on standby because of the hurricane.
Fish everywhere snorkeling is the best tents allowed in all sites bait available up and down the keys
Park is open, limited facilities, beach is not. Discounted entrance fee.
Your best chance of getting a accurate answer to your question is to call rhe park service directly
The beach is open but everything else is still closed. I went there last week. Admission is reduced to $2.50 per person
It's closed indefinitely. Most of the buildings and mangroves were destroyed on the ocean side. The campground and bay side are in better condition. It's a long road to recovery.
Cost. By. Favor
