We loved this campground. Yes, the campsite can be small and yes, the road in the campground may not be suitable for low clearance vehicles. Regardless, the creek, the nearby big pine lakes hike and the campground host made up for it! We had a wonderful time and especially enjoyed hearing the creek at night as we went to sleep. We will be back!

My family and I had a wonderful trip in November and even though we were late checking in, our site was the perfect spot to rest our feet after and in prep for a few big hikes. We did Big Pine Lakes one day and Lake Sabrina on the next day. Because it was chilly at night, not a lot of campers or hikers., which meant a quiet campground. Didn't notice bugs, but it was a little chilly and I was grateful for my layers.

Great for a short stay! At 7,600 feet, it was nice and cool over the 4th of July week. Site 17 has got to be the best site out there. Way in the back, secluded, a 11,800 foot mountain at our back and a rushing creek to the side, it was perfect! Direct sun briefly in the morning for about 45 mins, then shade until around 2-2:30. Then direct sun until the sun fell behind the adjacent mountain around 6:30. The site was small for our 12x15’ tent. A 12x12 would probably work. A few close hikes nearby. First Falls was close. Second Falls and First, Second, Third lake are 3ish to 5ish hours one way. Camp Host, Bob was super friendly and helpful. The camp store has ice, which is great because Big Pine is a 45+ min round trip. Items are over prices but to be expected given the location and difficulty getting items there. We stayed with 3 small children, 3, 6, 7, and we found it decent for them. There is a very small playground there too. We stayed for 5 nights, which was about a day too long for the kids only because after we hiked Second Falls we were out of hiking options for the area. They loved the creek and roaming around though. I would definitely recommend it if you are interested in longer hikes to Second Falls or First, Second, or Third lake. I was disappointed to not be able to see the lakes but it was too far for the children. Two adults would or adults with older (teen) children would do well here with the longer hikes. We took one day to drive down to Bishop, and Klondike Lake, both highly recommended. Definitely no regrets for booking this and staying here.

We booked the campsite #13 at Big Pine Creek Campground and it turned out one of our most favorite spots. #13 is close to restroom and river. It has plenty of shadow. There isn’t many mosquitoes even though the campground is close to the river. The table and the bear box are close to each other so it’s convenient to cook and clean your kitchen stuff. The owner is very friendly and welcomed. My boyfriend and I hiked North trail to First lake to Third lake from the campground. The view is speechless. It’s easy to finish the hike in 5-6hours out and back. Fourth lake was still covered by the ice on middle of June 2019.

The weekend of August 17-19 was great, no trace of the fires
To get to the first lake it was about 3 hours to get there. I left around 8:00-8:30 and got there around 11:12. Granted I took a few breaks here and there
NO

Yea is opened. I reserved. It on this pass wends when it opened . it was us and another family camping
I don't know but you can give the Bishop Forest service a call, they should be able to help with the answer.
I want to say we normally stay in campsite 34. Just as you come into the campsite it's the first road to the left first campsite on the right. We can normally fit two full-size vehicles and about five tents
There are usual requests that no outside firewood is aloud as to not introduce new bugs or fungus in the area. That being said, I just called Eastern Sierra visitors center and they said outside they know of no absolute restrictions so it should be fine. Please just burn all the wood you bring and leave non behind. Also make sure you visit the Glacier Lodge while ur up there, they got beers, BBQ and fresh caught fish dinners.
They said they will close October 20 for the season
We book 6 months in advance but 1/2 the campground is empty from cancellations there hasn't been any water from the spickets for 2 years so if you are bringing a rv need to fill up before you set up the one and only water supply is right before the camp host site and welcome sign other than that the fishing is great and hiking and.scenery is beautiful and deer everywhere ...enjoy
