Stunning state park! I canβt believe I hadnβt been here all these years Iβve been visiting Tahoe. A must-see! Canβt wait to go back in the summer time and use the day use section along the lake.

Great memorial and historic site, beautiful lake, great picnic location. Had trouble with parking our truck and trailer down the day-use area - stay in the main memorial parking area with large rigsπ

Very informative historically speaking. Not the easiest to find as there have been new roads put in and Google Map sent us in a circle. The staff was very friendly. Worth the stop if you are traveling with youngsters.

This whole area (Donner, Truckee, Tahoe) is God's country. One of the most beautiful places on earth.

Yes there are trails for xc at donner lake. Call and ask museum for update on trails. It's small area but fun.
Yes, several areas to go in. Also a rental place for kayaks, canoes, SUPs, etc.
There were some tiny patches on the hillside where it was shady, but I saw none by the lake or on the nearby trail. We didn't go up the mountain, and when you hit the Hwy, snow is definitely visible on the mountains.
There many cabins for rent in Truckee area Yesyea
Wifi while you are outside in a State Park? You must be joking. Smartphones will use 4G or 5G provided by the users carrier-provided data plan (just like every other outdoor park and venue in the world).
Day use only
No, I don't believe camp fires are allowed at all.. Pretty dry fire season!!
Yes bathrooms are open inside the visitors center. $5 parking
yes
Yes, $10
There are many documentaries and movies, if you go to Donner Memorial Park Visitor Center they also have them for sale.
Showers cost quarters.... Plan on at least $1.50 for a short, but adequate shower
I have no idea, you should contact the park itself to find out, what they might have. I only stopped to go into the visitor center, and had to pay a $9.00 parking fee.
Not sure but they have cabins you could rent all year
Bear boxes are provided at each site to safely store food
Yes, but doubtful youll need it,,donner has many pine and redwood trees
No,..... But: I have an access pass for the national parks but California wants you to have a lot tighter requirement to use their ADA spots We stayed at Donner lake in an ADA spot because we hot there just after 5pm, when they release the unreserved spots to the general public.
The site is down till 9AM today for some reason
to enter the donner memorial day use area you must pay a fee and yes there is good access to the lake to put your kayaks into the water. the bestbarea for that (in the day use area) is just 300ft beyond the pay booth. There are also many many better spots along the road from the north shore. The problem with your idea though is that due to the tens of thousands of vacationers, timeshares and locals that stake out spots early for 4th of July you will have to arrive before daylight to find decent parking and the state park closes for new entries very early..people line up for miles to get in and others park for free usually a day ahead of time. I would not advise going. ON THE 4TH. just about any other day is far better than that day and be prepared to be very anxious if you choose otherwise.
Yes you can use your kayaks at the park. Parking is first come first serve till full
If you stop in at the museum,( which is a must!) you can get that information there. They have two guided tours a day, also. The museum is really well done and there is a great free movie to enjoy.
Phone the office. They also have guided tours. Great imformation.
Call the museum. That is the only way to get a legit answer.
Your really trying to Relive that whole Donner Party thing camping this time of year, aren't you.
On the east end, just south of the visitor center, is a picnic area.
Because of the ill-fated Donner party that tried crossing the mountains during the winter Of 1846.
