I understand that the world is changing and most things are done by internet. For people who cannot just up and go to the dss office or know how to use the internet, what is we to do? I called regularly and can never get no one on the phone or the phone would just hang up. How is we supposed to get help?

You have to go down there with proof of your income decrease. It has to be documented. You cannot do it over the phone. Only in person or by mail.

Maybe you can go to tri-county ministries they are located across the street from the DSS office they help with clothes food and assistance like help paying rent... Medicaid and probably more.. Hope everything works out...

no. this is the dss office in Charleston county. if you can go on line to DHHS then you can recertify there. that's the easiest way. if you feel the need to talk to a real person then you can come into our office and talk to the Medicaid worker that is employed here.
No this is not the office to come to to receive or to pay child support. In order to get child support started you would have to go through the family court system. There is a Child Support Enforcement office located near us but that is for established cases whereby people have already been court ordered to pay. Please go online and search for Child Support Enforcement in the state of South Carolina for more answers and particularly for your county.
I don't work in the area of snap but I would not think that anything would change. Just because the name changes doesn't mean the biological relationship does and that's what child support is all about a parent paying for his or her child regardless of what their name is or whether they are transgender. Now the only thing that would change would be if that child was legally adopted by someone else which gives that child a different name then that person adopting that child would take on the role of responsible parent and the biological parent would no longer have legal rights including having to pay child support.
