Where do I begin? As long as I can remember, I have always clenched my teeth at night. Unfortunately, I was a teeth grinder. Needless to say, I have ground my adult teeth down over many years and I actually thought I was going to “out live” my teeth. Knowing this, I knew I had to become proactive to rectify my problem. This is how my dental journey began… and how I located Dr. Schmitt. This was not only a great “dental experience”, this was a miraculous full mouth transformation/restoration. From the very beginning of this process, I was treated with the upmost kindness, sincerity, and gentle touch. Each time I went into the office, I was greeted with a friendly “hello”; by Dr. Schmitt and his wonderful staff … Jacqueline and Amy. Everyone there definitely made me feel special!! Amy and Jacqueline always went above and beyond the “call of duty”. All my needs and desires were granted with a smile. The attention, love and nurturing they gave to me was so appreciated! Most importantly, Dr. Schmitt was amazing beyond belief. Not only was he a kind- hearted doctor and soft spoken, he was a “magic maker”. His talent and ability to create a “perfect mouth” was truly a work of art. He spent numerous hours studying my teeth, X-rays, and hundreds of pictures to recreate how my teeth looked thirty years ago. Each question I had was always answered immediately. I felt as if I was “heard” and “considered” during each visit. On occasion during this process, I even had a couple of temporary crowns pop off …which occurred over the weekend. I contacted Dr Schmitt, and he quickly responded. He was always willing to come into the office and fix my problem instantly. (Such dedication). This journey would not have been possible without such devoted, hard-working, exceptionally talented and caring people. Yes, this was a long, arduous, and expensive process…. but worth every penny!! I absolutely have the most gorgeous teeth... thank you to Dr. Schmitt. If you ever need prosthodontics work done… the Schmitt “family” is where to go!! Kudos to Dr. Scott Schmitt, Amy, and Jacqueline!! Thank you for everything!! T.L. Mt Dora, Florida

Dr Schmitt provided outstanding service for me, and answered my concerns that I have had for years about missing teeth. I can’t wait for him to treat me for my dental problems and give me new teeth with dental implants. I would recommend Dr Schmitt to anyone.

Dr. Schmitt's advanced training and personal dedication to extreme detail make him uniquely qualified for porcelain veneers. The procedure can mask several common concerns including: - Excessive Wear: Your teeth can get worn down for various reasons including your lifestyle, diet, or bruxism. Veneers can elongate the look of short teeth for a healthier-looking smile - Discoloration: Intrinsic stains are rooted deep beneath the tooth surface, rendering whitening treatments ineffective. Veneers will conceal discolored enamel, leaving your teeth a stunning shade of white. - Breaks and Chips: Veneers can effectively cover up chips through a custom-designed shell capping the entire front surface of the tooth. - Cracks: Cracks can detract from an otherwise beautiful smile. We can place one veneer or several to mask this common cosmetic issue. - Uneven Teeth: Porcelain veneers can even address minor misalignment and irregularly shaped teeth by achieving better symmetry.
When your dental implants are fully integrated with your jawbone, you will return to your oral surgeon's office to receive your abutments. These connector pieces anchor your new restorations to the implants and are placed during a minor surgery. Most patients recover and are ready to receive their permanent prosthetics within a few weeks.
Your gum tissue should heal within several weeks following surgery while your bone tissue will continue to heal over the next four to six months. During this time, your dental implants will fuse with the surrounding bone structure. This process is known as osseointegration. Successful osseointegration is crucial to the success and long-term stability of your implants.
Veneers are so natural-looking they look just like real teeth. Today's advanced dental porcelain is made to sparkle and has a slight translucence, similar to enamel. Porcelain is also highly resistant to stains from coffee, caffeinated teas, and more. It is a strong material that can last for over a decade with proper care and maintenance.
Becoming educated about wearing dentures may be as important as wearing them. A big factor in determining whether a patient has a good or poor denture experience is their level of expectation. Please keep the following notes in mind for the first few days: - You should eat a soft diet for the first few days. You should select foods that you can cut and place into the back of your mouth. Once you are chewing, you should learn to chew on both sides at once. Two-sided chewing will help stabilize the dentures. This is very important. - Excess saliva and gagging are problems that should subside after the first week. - Lower dentures will probably be harder to adjust to than your upper denture. This is due to many factors: your lower jaw moving, your tongue moving, your lower jawbone being smaller, the lack of a good suction seal. - Good nutrition and/or multivitamins will improve your ability to successfully wear your dentures.
More than any other specialty, a prosthodontist is prepared to comprehensively evaluate how the mouth functions and design a solution. This may include crowns, bridges, veneers, implants or all of the above.

If for any reason the temporary crown becomes loose, or does fall off, contact your dentist or prosthodontist immediately. If you are unable to be seen right away, place Fixodent, Vaseline, or Polygrip inside the crown and place it back onto the are it came from until you are able to go to the office and have your provisional re-cemented.
Important factors we take into account before moving forward with treatment include: - Oral Health: Patients should have good oral health before getting started on cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Schmitt will first correct any tooth or gum problems you may have to give you the best foundation for your veneers. - Bruxism: Teeth grinding can damage veneers. If you suffer from bruxism, Dr. Schmitt may recommend wearing a mouthguard at night to protect your restorations. - Treatment Goals: It is important to remember that veneers alter your natural tooth structure, so you must be committed to future upkeep. If your goal is to have a more permanent solution to dental flaws, veneers are a great option. However, if you are unsure about making a permanent change, we offer reversible procedures like dental bonding.
The need for full mouth reconstruction may be due to: - Teeth that have been lost - Teeth that have been severely injured - Teeth that have become severely worn - Ongoing complaints of pain
Although implant-supported crowns, bridges, and dentures will eventually need to be replaced, they can last up to a decade with proper care. However, most dental implants will never need to be replaced. They have shown outstanding success rates and many patients are able to enjoy the benefits of implants for a lifetime.
After teeth are removed, the jawbone will slowly shrink away. Significant changes usually occur within six to ten years. Wearing dentures actually accelerates this process. Wearing poorly fitting dentures will accelerate it even more. Poorly fitting dentures do not always hurt. If you had teeth removed at the same time you received your denture, your gums will change greatly in the first six months. After six to nine months a reline processed by the laboratory will be necessary.
The following are some important notes for caring for your dentures: - Dentures should be removed overnight, if possible. This rest period is essential for long-term health of the gums and underlying bone. - You should have two toothbrushes: one denture brush for the denture and one soft toothbrush for the gums and tongue. - Never use toothpaste on dentures. It is too abrasive and will damage the plastic. Use soft soap or water. - Soaking dentures is not a substitute for brushing. - Dentures that are out of your mouth should be stored in clean water. This will prevent warpage that can occur when the plastic dries out.
It is normal to have some sensitivity associated with temporary crown, especially to cold water or biting. This is not to cause alarm, unless the sensitivity is severe or prolonged (about 30 seconds). In which case, you are encouraged to seek professional assistance.
If there are additional treatments that your prosthodontist feels are needed before receiving dental implants, this should be discussed during your initial consultation. Preparations for dental implants may include: - Extractions - Periodontal treatment - Bone grafting - Sinus lift surgery These procedures may require several months for adequate healing, which will add to the length of your treatment.
