Life long Chicagoland with a cruel diagnosis of schizophrenia effective. I was victimized by the workers here. Made to try too kill myself for a bed. Food is lacking. Shelter is partial. Involves a lot of suffering. Do better breaking. Into jail. I pray that the authorities allow me to work for profit.

This is a homeless shelter for women but they let men in that "claim" to not be affiliated with the role of male or female. I find this very uncomfortable and hurtful and downright forced trauma. Anyone that looks like the opposite sex, I am petrified. Gay men are the reason why I have trauma to start with. It's even worse to go into a homeless shelter designed JUST for women and someone of the opposite sex walks in claiming to be nothing when they clearly look like a man and sound like one. I find this very perverted, intrusive of my healing and quite disrespectfully uncomfortable. But if us women that the all female shelter is designed for is uncomfortable. WE have to leave. Which I find very unfortunate. There are women like me who have been abused in all kinds of ways by men but they can force themselves into an all female shelter because they said that they are no sex? Very traumatizing in itself. Changing their name to emulate a woman's name because they want to be included is abusive. Forcing anyone who literally can't even afford to catch the bus to ride somewhere else when they more than likely can afford to do so. I feel mental abuse on so many levels. I just want peace and to not see them when the shelter claims that it is for women when clearly it's for anyone that says they are even though they are fully dressed like a man, look like a man and sound like a man.

It's a really nice place to live, while your waiting for housing or other programs to come through. For the better life for each woman.

Several of them were residents.
No children allowed...but the Salvation Army does
House of Passage is a single women's shelter. You could try OSH at 1320 Cherry St.
they are chairs not beds and they give you a sheet to sleep with and you aren't allowed to lay on the floor I've been sent there and I'm dreading going back I have a lot of friends who went there and hated it it's the last place you want to go you have to be there by 5pm and they drive you back to apple tree at 7am in a van
Very digusting
You do not want to gobto this shelter at all I been there it is terrible even for young people they even have trans gender in there you do not want to go there. Nothing against gender ,but some staff are not all that bad ,but a good majority of them play favorites their food sucks. It is no nutritional food value. They also need to stop illegal room searches in the rooms where most people that do not do drugs I understand thry have rules to go by ,but if their going to do room searches do it while yhe pepple who stay in those rooms at least watch because some things of mine were taken without my permission. And they also like to make false reports agaonst some people. So no one wants to stay there.
