If you are looking simply for an overlook, I would take a different trail. I just went to the overlook and back. It is a nice forest, starting out mostly with evergreens and then becoming mixed with deciduous trees. You have to go up part …

Little over a mile hike to a secluded beach. Great for rock hunting and just enjoying the sunshine!

Awesome beginner trail. Easy to follow, only drawback is some poison ivy near the parking lot, but the trail is wide enough to avoid it easily. The trail winds through secondary forests with mature hemlocks, birch, and oak, with areas of young maple growth. Bring your swimsuit as your reward is the last .2 miles over dunes and ending at a Lake Michigan pebble beach. Only a few people. It is possible to loop back on a more advanced trail (just about .5 miles longer), but I didn't try that one. Fantastic hike for young kids!

On the loop trail, yes. Not on the spur to the beach or on the beach.
I doubt it. Dogs on leashes are allowed, bit I'd check with park headquarters.
