Such a cool place with such interesting history. Part of the fun is just getting up to the town, but make sure that you have 4-wheel drive before attempting it.

I've been following 'Ghost Town Living' on you tube for quite a while so it was really fun seeing the town in person. I love the work that they are doing to restore the town and we got some great details from the volunteer we spoke with. We were sorry we didn't get to see Brent when we were there... Next time perhaps. We also dropped off 7 gallons of drinking water as they're very limited on supplies😊

Took some time out to visit CG and volunteer up at the town. The place is ful of history and has a museum in the old General Store of artefacts recovered from the mine by Brent. Well worth a visit either to volunteer or a day trip. You can visit some of the old buildings like the assay hut and old smelter. There's lots of trails around to hike and visiting CG Peak is a must. The road up is gravel/rock and 4x4s are better suited, although I did see a Model S make it up one day. Keep an eye out for the hanging bucket on the remaining tramway down from CG. No camping is allowed on site and the hoist house/Mines are also off limits. Don't turn up outside opening hours either as you will get turned away.

What an amazing place. Didn't get the honor of meeting its owner, Brent, but enjoyed meeting Hans and kicking around for a bit. The view is amazing. We came up the back side from Saline Valley on dual sport motorcycles and it was rough! But the front side road is well groomed, wide, and not technical.

Brent is a super cool guy. He's spent the last 13 months rebuilding cero Gordo back to it's original. He claimed there was a ghost. But you'll have to experience cero Gordo yourself to find outm he's trying to rebuild the motel so that folks from all over can stay and learn about all the mines. Brent's youtube channel is called ghost town living. They're you can learn what cero Gordo is and what it will be in the future.
Cerro Gordo is now private property so you must call for reservations/permission first. Check out Ghost Town Living on YouTube, that is the owner's channel and should link to his Instagram. Make sure you have 4 wheel drive, and really good brakes for the trip down, it is a steep one.
Robin is correct there is no lodging per se here. They do have a bunkhouse and if they do allow people to stay overnight or even a couple days for a donation but you would have to talk that over with the caretaker on premises. The bunkhouse does not have any amenities like air conditioning I don't believe any of the buildings up there do. It's a bit of a challenge to get up there you definitely need a four-wheel drive vehicle to even make it to the town. Make sure you do a little bit of research before you decide to go out there. It's very rough and not a touristy type place but a great experience if you are up for it.
Gotta see the Cemetery. If not one nearby, I'll find it. First the Saloon. THEN the Cemetery. Can a person walkabout during the night and early morning?
Definitely not. He's not always in CA. There are many people coming and going and staying up there, volunteers and workers. Plus the animals. He is no longer "alone in a ghost town".
So it's almost 8 miles up. I strongly recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle with good all terrain tires. I have a Ford F150 FX4 with Hankook All Terrain tires and I was slipping quite a lot on 4-Low. The owner made it up with a mini van, so you can do it, but lots and lots of sharp rocks going up. Also watch your heat. Try not going over 245°F. Turn on your heater to help cool your engine. Btw, when I got there a met a few of the crew and they told me Cerro Gordo was closed due to the construction of the American Hotel so you can't stop at the city. It's a county road so you can drive up but you'll have to park at the top of the mountain not at Cerro Gordo. I went June 2021. Also they informed me that if I break down or get a flat, I was on my own. Please plan ahead and prepare for a flat tire or overheating. It's a real issue going there. It's a tight road and single lane, so be ready in case some is going down when you going up. Also I tried emailing or calling and no one answered.
Yes they have a couple years ago.
Soon he is starting a home stay system.
You are able to look around they will give you a tour if you want not sure where you can camp but you can close by
I don't believe you can camp, exactly there is but you can definitely camp nearby. Actually they may have some spots... Best thing is contact people there... They have pages online and on social media. But camping at Diaz is A LOT better and not a far ride.
If you have a fear of heights just look straight ahead. There's no need to shift into 4 wd. Just stay at a steady pace of 10 to 15 mph.
Yes, several. But it depends on what you consider strange!! 😂
Very cool. Not into glamping. I'm a trained guide and survivalist. Remote to me is a good time= No living to upset the spirits. I'll be in touch with Caretaker/Sheriff/mayor. Saw your presentation on the news. Very cool. Educational also as to the REAL west. Not Hollywood created. I asked about a restaurant because I LOVE local and native foods by the local citizens. Homemade food is the best. Also. I would never remove any historical relics from anywhere. Crime against the natives and the dead. Bad mojo. Turn them into the owners asap. Don't let my profile picture fool you.
I'm with John. It's open to visitors most all year long. Not sure about the snow season. Go and enjoy, the host is quite informative and candid.
