If you have a fear of heights just look straight ahead. There's no need to shift into 4 wd. Just stay at a steady pace of 10 to 15 mph.
I been up there twice and never even put my truck in four wheel drive. The only thing you have to watch out for are the sharp rocks in the road. They can puncture your tire. Drive slow and steady.
And dusty. Some beautiful views of Owen's Valley and the Sierra Nevada. Definitely worth the drive.
Very rough, long and steep. A experienced driver can get up it with a two wheel drive vehicle but I HIGHLY recommend 4x4.
