SERS of OHIO has terminated the employee earned healthcare of some pensioners June 30. Medicare Part B must benefit SERS financially & SERS requires 65 years & older to apply and purchase Part B. It was to be completed by June 30. However, dept. of SS:Medicare is backlogged up to one year. My attempts to aid a retiree to apply, (simple), and then purchase Part B have been unsuccessful. I’ve spoken with 3 SS/Medicare representatives. Not one of the 3 knew Part B can be purchased; even when an individual lacks the 40 credits needed to qualify. I tried explaining that it is possible led to my great frustration. Medicare management is aware of untrained new employees experience and emailed that open enrollment is extended to thru the end of 2022. Is SERS unaware of the backlog or do they not care. I’m only doing my job mentality is likely their excuse. I see big lawsuits coming. Family of pensioners who die from cancelled healthcare.

I have been with SERS my entire career and have had numerous reasons to reach out to them and they have always been responsive and courteous. I think they do a great job and I'm grateful to be a part of SERS.

Not willing to help at all! It's their way or no way. Glad I'm not a member anymore!!

I believe it is up to our government, Ohio representatives to change that. It will take all school employees to write them requesting that they change it. Our union is circulating a Petition to demand repeal of unfair social security government pension offset and Windfall elimination provision. It's going to take all Ohio school employees to make this change. Please start contacting Ohio representatives and ask your union how you can help to try and change this! Thank you to all who are putting your efforts into helping make this change!
Its for retirement so if you quit working for a school district, you can transfer the money saved to a 401 or cancel it and they will send you the money back BUT it will take awhile and you'll be penalized 20% when you file taxes.
When will there be a cost of living raise for retired teachers? Thank you
Hi Denise, please give us a call at 1-800-878-5853 and we'd be happy to answer questions about your SERS account. We're open Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 4:30 pm.
There is a garage accessible on Grant Avenue. Bring your ticket inside and the security desk will validate it so you can exit for free.
I have always been told that they take 75% and you get 25%.
