My mom's dog was attacked by 2 dogs who have been wondering the streets the last 3 months at least. 2 dogs have been killed and 3 others have been injured! They caught the dogs thanks to us. But now have giving them back to the owners and said theirs nothing they can do and definitely wouldn't make them put their dogs down no matter how many Peeples pets die! Smh

Wonderful place to bring stray animals to be adopted. The staff was super nice and courteous. The place was very clean.

No, appointments are only needed for Owner Surrenders
Yes, on Tuesdays
All adoptions are $67.00 this includes the cost of spay/neuter, vaccines and microchip. Please call 504-349-5111 for an appointment.
I was there before Christmas, and they had puppies. I'm sure the breeds available for adoption changes as they are dropped off and adopted. It's not a pet store, it's an animal shelter.
Community cat program at Jefferson parish animal shelter
We have several homeless cats with fleas coming in our yard everyday. I feed wildbirds in my back yard and the cats are trying to kill them. I doubt if they have had shots. They don't have a collar. I have seen about 5 or 6 homeless cats around my house.
Cash debit credit. No checks
They don't do it unless it's a shelter dog.
Rabies shots are administered every open Tuesday from 10-1130am cost is 15-20$ depending on if your animal is fixed(spayed/neutered)
they are open intake and have to accept any animal that comes through the door.
They will close at 4pm on Tuesday they're pretty good.. & also open on weekends too
Yes
$67.00 unless you use plastic, then it is $69.00
Call 349-5111 tomorrow
Yes
There is no outside veterinarian services at the shelter. Owned animals cannot receive treatment
Not to my knowledge, they don't actually sell anything here it's strictly adoptions and volunteer work for the parents and the state and city and such
I never met bunny, all the small dogs were in quarintine!
Please call Animal Control for more information 504-349-5536
There is no cost to Jefferson Parish Residents. You will need to bring your animal and Drivers License or picture ID to the shelter during business hours. We do have different policies than a private Veterinarian so we do suggest calling ahead.
There is a low cost animal clinic on Washington Ave. in New Orleans that they will refer you to.
No services like that there. Call the LASPCA Grooming Dept they offer cat baths. It's off Mardi Gras Blvd in New Orleans
Owner surrenders are by appointment only please call to schedule
There's so many stray cats around the house with fleas in the yard and in the house. There's no sense in having the yard treated when the cat's are in the yard 24-7. I have also seen a man on a bycicle at night feeding the cats. The city of Westwego has a ban on feeding stray cats. Please bring a trap and get rid of the cat's. They are trying to kill wildbirds in my back yard that I'm feeding. They are a nuisance.
Yes
Spca off of Mardi Gras Blvd has a clinic and sell it also they take care credit, great clinic
You can come in and put an application in on a pet. If your application is the first one, you'll get called first, but if someone else puts in an application and you don't stay in touch to let them know you're coming to get it, they will move on to the next application. So if you're interested in taking home a new pet but maybe your home isn't ready or something, just let them know.
Get them chipped
No but its pretty cheap compared to a veterinarian. Google low cost veterinarians call them and see what they can do 4u
Around 40 bucks but google the # to make sure. Plus its by appointment only
Yes they do. Call & make an appointment & they'll discuss pricing with you
Im not sure you would have to call. 349-5111
The shelter opens at 10a but Google their # & ask just to be sure
Probably not but you drop them off to the shelter near you. If you have any questions Google their number & call them
You have to bring the cats in a trap. I think they will lend you one. They have a list of vets that will fix them for free. If you have a pet cat those Vets will fix for $15 if you show you live in Jefferson Parish.
They do take care of animals needs, but it may not be free, but for sure a really cheap price. Or they may recommend her to a vet who may do the same. I would bring the dog in.
If you are a Jefferson Parish residents I believe you get a discount
you do not buy pets from the shelter. you adopt and the animal will have all shots, microchipped, spayed or neutered, heartworm checked and fecal done. the adoption fee may still be $67.00. puppies go fast. you may also be able to contact a Shih Tzu rescue but the price you pay would be the full price for all the vetting. but still less than if you bought a pup from a breeder and had all the vetting done yourself. I just had a small dog spayed with pain meds, all the shots, blood check, fecal check, ear cleaning with meds, and microchipped with (lifetime register) and it cost me over $500.00. (it was a high-end vet but the dog was also very fearful) but it still would have been cheaper to turn it into the shelter, let them vet it and then adopt it.
yes, always better to check out dogs before making a decision. if there are enough volunteers there when you go it would be easier. sometimes there are not enough volunteers and if the kennel staff are busy the front desk may be busy too and you would have to wait until a volunteer or kennel staff can shake loose to go back there with you. they have been dealing with the dogs and you can ask them questions about the dogs you want to look at.
I think the adoption fee is $60. They currently have tons of adorable kittens.
Nope
there is the Jefferson Parish animal shelter on Lapalco in Harvey or the east bank shelter which is on #1 Humane way in Harahan/Metairie which are both open intake shelters, and if they are overfull there is no guarantee that the dog would be put up for adoption. the SPCA which is the Louisiana SPCA is in New Orleans. any of the shelters can give you information on how to move and take your pet with you.
it is an open intake shelter. that means that it has to accept any pet that is brought in no matter how full they are. not like some of the no-kill shelters that can say they are full and tell you, you have to wait until they have an open kennel. the Jefferson Parish shelters will hold a pet as long as possible and they work closely with fosters and rescues but as long as people are letting their pets reproduce they will remain full and so will the rescues which is hard on the animals and hard on the shelter workers. they would love to be no kill.
not for the public
Yes, they do. Call them for more info.
Sorry, I just visited with a friend. Don't know.
